Holding down alt-print screen works fine, to just capture a single window. Is there a permanent solution to this? I'd rather not mess with third-party tools. windows-xp multiple-monitors print-screen share|improve this question edited Sep 1 '09 at 1:36 salmonmoose 1,5501014 asked Jul 20 '09 at 20:05 Jeffrey 2,02031936 You might consider adding the tag "multiple-monitors" to http://superuser.com/questions/9513/print-screen-error-with-dual-monitors your question. I'd do it myself, but I don't have enough reputation yet. –tnorthcutt Sep 1 '09 at 1:19 Wow I'm having the same problem but I can get it to paste into Photoshop (CS3), like it's not even grabbing the screenshot. However, Alt-Prnt-Scrn works! And I know I don't have memory issues because I've used the print-screen screenshot (pasted into PS) for years on this same machine--- it used to work not more than a week ago. Probably I just need to reboot? Windows being random again. Or is some clever program disabling this out of spite? Grrr. –Jared Updike Oct 5 '09 at 17:48 Not much help I know, but can you reproduce the error in Safe Mode? That might help rule out graphics driver buffering issues (if you can reproduce the problem, if you can't then that's a possibility...) –Redandwhite Dec 2 '09 at 0:07 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted I had same problem. Reduce harware accel & reduce to 16 bit color. I have an ATI Fire GL V5200 with dual outputs. share|improve this answer answered Aug 11 '10 at 12:53 Patrick 6612 Wow! That fixed it exactly! One notch down on the acceleration, and down to 16-bit color - and it all works perfectly. Thanks!!! –Jeffrey Aug 13 '10 at 14:31 For anyone else's reference: My card is an ATI Radeo

Viper007Bond, Nov 30, 2004 #1 Viper007Bond Newbie I just looked up all of the programs that are running right now according to task manager and I doubt any of them are responsible. WTF?!?! Viper007Bond, Nov 30, 2004 #2 goldfries www.goldfries.com broken keyboard? have you tried other keyboards? goldfries, Nov 30, 2004 #3 Viper007Bond Newbie Well, it's Print-Screening, but won't paste. Wait, this is weird. I opened MSPaint to see the error it was giving me, realized I had text on my clipboard, hit Print Screen and it worked! Print-Screened some other things, kept working! However, as soon as I close Paint, it stops working! And now even with MSPaint open, it's not working! The error Paint is giving me is: "Error getting the Clipboard Data!" -> OK "There is not enough memory or resources to complete operation. Close some programs, and then try again." -> OK WTF, I have a gig of RAM and it's not all being used. Perhaps the file where the clipboard contents is corrupted... Viper007Bond, Nov 30, 2004 #4 Viper007Bond Newbie Just rebooted and it's been working find so far. I've rebooted before and it's stopped working, so I'd imagine it's just a matter of time until it stops working again.
