Error Getting View Handle Clearcase
view handle Unable to perform view startup operations; reinstall; reimage; unable to get view handle; 1126174 Technote (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) This technote explains how an IBM Rational ClearCase view that is restored incorrectly can result in the error Unable to perform view startup operations on Microsoft Windows. Cause Attempts to start a view, results in the error: Unable to perform view startup operations... Unable to get view handle. A check of the view server logs list several "unknown style protections" errors. However, using fix_prot did not resolve the problem. Note: The problem is only with restored view, and new views created on this machine work correctly. The machine that was hosting the view was re-imaged and the machine name was changed. The view was backed up to a network share before the re-image was done, and then simply copied back. This is the source of the "unknown style protections" errors. The hostname change caused the existing view to have incorrect host information for the view server. In this case, the global path was correct but the view server host name was not. Resolving the problem Replace the registry and view tag entries for the restored views using the cleartool sub-commands register and mktag, respectively. cleartool register -view -replace

Once this was done, the users connected through CCRC to the DR server and created views and performed some dummy file creation/labelling/checkout/checkin operations. Later we transferred the mastership of VOBs back to the replica in primary server. Users disconnected from the same view and updated their URL to point to that of Primary server and connected again. But when they tried to perform check-outs with http://stackoverflow.com/questions/29193731/unable-to-get-view-handle-in-clearcase the same view, they got the error " Unable to find view by uuid:336e2 etc Unable to find view handle Why could this be happening? clearcase share|improve this question edited Mar 22 '15 at 11:27 VonC 625k19017981883 asked Mar 22 '15 at 11:22 user3437212 117111 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted It can be happening it the registry server (which includes the rgy/view_tag and rgy/view_object text files) has not been synchronized back. This is often the case considering a DR usually involves tests which are "lost" (meaning which are not replicated back to the original environment shut off during the DR). It is best to simply re-create those views than trying to recover them. share|improve this answer answered Mar 22 '15 at 11:26 VonC 625k19017981883 Can this be rectified? –user3437212 Mar 22 '15 at 11:29 @user3437212 usually no: the DR environment is generally "reset" when done. Re-creating the view is faster, easier and allows the users to get back and running again in seconds. –VonC Mar 22 '15 at 11:30 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agr
