errors: dm-linear, lookup failed. Edit Remove 16 This bug affects 3 people Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone hal (Ubuntu) Edit Confirmed Undecided ovirt multipath error getting device Unassigned Edit Also affects project (?) Also affects distribution/package Nominate for device-mapper: table: 253:6: multipath: error getting device series Bug Description Binary package hint: hal-device-manager Received this error message after Nautilus shut down, and I switched multipath error getting device centos to my first shell (ctrl + alt + 1): [4040.xxxxxx] device-mapper: table: 254:0: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed I had Deluge running calmly in the background, Firefox opened (but https://access.redhat.com/solutions/38538 grayed out: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/124581) and I was just opening Rhythmbox. Rhythmbox appeared fully loaded, but it's possible it wasn't. Nautilus broke and only showed my background. I switched to my first shell and that was the error message that greeted me - it was repeating the error and going up in the initial number (ie: [4080.xxxxxx]) at every step. What https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124641 information would you like from me? I can post my cpuinfo, meminfo, lspci -v, lsusb -v and anything in /var/log. udev has also been acting up on me and has been trying to take 100% of my resources. To fix udev, I have to run: sudo killall udevd sudo /sbin/udevd --daemon top: PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 2733 root 14 -4 36512 34m 396 S 58.5 1.1 12:08.39 udevd Tags: deluge firefox gutsy rhythmbox Edit Tag help Brett Alton (brett-alton-deactivatedaccount) wrote on 2007-07-08: #1 Sorry, this is a duplicate of: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evms/+bug/115616 Brett Alton (brett-alton-deactivatedaccount) wrote on 2007-07-13: #2 Now, actually, using either the 2.6.22-386 or 2.6.22-generic kernel, my /var/log/messages looks like this (except repeated for thousands of lines): Jul 13 08:02:44 localhost kernel: [ 66.191750] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table Jul 13 08:02:44 localhost kernel: [ 66.192253] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table Jul 13 08:02:44 localhost kernel: [ 66.192755] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table ... This contains an LVM volume groups called vg_ALHINT (INT for Integration and ALH is an error getting device abbreviation of its Oracle database name). The data is Oracle 11g. The VG was imported, activated and udev created the maps for each logical volume. However device mapper did not create mappings for one of the logical volumes [LV], and for the LV in question it created /dev/dm-2 with different major minor number compared to the rest of LVs. # dmsetup table vg_ALHINT-arch: 0 4300800 linear 202:16 46139392 vg0-lv6: 0 20971520 linear 202:2 30869504 vg_ALHINT-safeset2: 0 4194304 linear 202:16 35653632 vg0-lv5: 0 2097152 linear 202:2 28772352 vg_ALHINT-safeset1: 0 4186112 linear 202:16 54528000 vg0-lv4: 0 524288 linear 202:2 28248064 vg0-lv3: 0 4194304 linear 202:2 24053760 vg_ALHINT-oradata: ** vg0-lv2: 0 4194304 linear 202:2 19859456 vg0-lv1: 0 2097152 linear 202:2 17762304 vg0-lv0: 0 17760256 linear 202:2 2048 vg_ALHINT-admin: 0 4194304 linear 202:16 41945088 ** You can see above vg_ALHINT-oradata is empty. # ls -l /dev/mapper/ total 0 [root@iui-alhdb01 ~]# ls -l /dev/mapper/ total 0 crw-rw---- 1 root root 10, 58 Apr 3 13:43 control lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Apr 3 13:43 vg0-lv0 -> ../dm-0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Apr 3 13:43 vg0-lv1 -> ../dm-1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Apr 3 14:35 vg0-lv2 -> ../dm-2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root
