Run SETUP.EXE and replace the display driver with a standard VGA driver, or a proper driver obtained from manufacturer of your graphic card. 0 LVL 10 Overall: Level 10 Windows OS 5 Message Accepted Solution by:For-Soft2004-11-12 I've just checked. Windows 3.1 does not have "Safe mode" so you have to switch the display driver with DOS interface. If you want better resolution, you will have to obtain a proper driver. 0 Message Author Comment by:computerclinic2004-11-12 Thanks, I forgot about that. crashing, i get this message on my screen' IEXPLORE caused a general protection fault in module 256_1024.drv at 0007:0B4D', and i have no option http://www.verycomputer.com/418_d90d579e89c56c60_1.htm but to close the program and restart, The problem is it normally happens when i am looking at an interesting page (sod's law) and every time it crashes my system resources get lower and lower until i have no option but to re-boot, wasting time on line. If i change the line in C:\Windows\System.ini Display= 256_1024.drv to Display=VGA.drv then all is well and nothing crashes, error loading the only problem being that the picture quality is rubbish, all big and only 16 colours So that points out to me that i have a problem with the display driver, i have tried all the drivers i have and none of them are any good, the set i have are GD5426/28 v1.32B with various specs, they either are the same as VGA or leave a error loading 256_1024.drv single coloured line horizontally across my screen. i have a Thorn ICL 486sx 25mhz (changed to a 486 DX2 66mhz) with 8meg Ram and a 210meg Hard drive. The video spec as listed after typing MSD at command promt are Video BIOS CL-GD542X VGA BIOS Version 1.41, OEM Name Cirrus Logic GD-54xx vga. i have a SVGA monitor that came with the machine, but my 'C' drive was re-formatted and everything was lost.
