Error Loading Address Book Evolution Exchange
Mugs stopping spam Jun 4, 2009 I finally Got the Global Address To Work in Evolution for Jaunty! 12:00 AM El DiPablo This post is going to be relatively small and quick, but I thought I would put it out there because I had the damnedest time getting the Global Address list in Evolution to work in Ubuntu 9.04.First off let me say that I hate Evolution. I don't use it on my Linux machines at home at all! If only someone would make a good OWA plugin for Thunderbird, then things would be better! Until then, Evolution is the only Exchange game for 'nix systems in town.So back to my problem. I could not access the Global Address List! No matter what I put in, I would get an error saying that Evolution couldn't access the Global address list. Depending where I was in Evolution, here are the errors i got:Error Loading Address BookOr I would get this error:Error Loading Address book. This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable. It was my fault though, I mistakenly thought that I should be putting in the FQDN of the Exchange server were you input the URI for the Global Catalog Server. I also read somewhere that you are supposed to put the URL of the OWA server. None of those worked. What did work though was putting in the FQDN of the local Domain Controller! If you don't know where to do that, click on Edit > Preferences. Select your Exchange account and press the Edit button.Click on the Receiving Options Tab, and under Global Catalog Server Name, input the FQDN of your local Domain Controller then click OK. You will have to restart Evolution for the changes to take effect. After I did that, I was able to access the GAL, and grab contacts straight from Active Directory! Now I believe this only works behind the corporate firewall. I am not quite sure what to do if you are wanting to access Exchange email from home on your Linux box. If you have gotten the GAL to open from outside of the network, hit me up in the comments to let me know what you did!Technorati Tags: evolution, exchange, gal, global address list, ubuntu, 9.04, jaunty jackelope Posted in: 9.04, evolution, exchange, gal, global address list, jaunty jackelope, ubuntu Newer Post Older Post Home Free Ubunt

Subject: Help with Evolution - no global address book Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2007 12:00:33 https://www.redhat.com/archives/rhl-list/2007-August/msg02780.html -0600 Hi List; I'm hoping someone can help with this. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1360448 I'm running evolution at a new client site to connect to exchange. (I've changed all instances of my actual username to 'myusername' and all instances of the clients domain to 'domain' in the data presented below) I have the following settings: error loading username: DOMAIN\myusername OWA URL: https://owa.domain.com With these settings I can pull my mail with no issues, however I cannot access the global address book. I've entered the "Global Catalog Server Name" as the name of the exchange server: domainex-1.city.domain.com With this setting if I go to 'Contacts --> Global Address error loading address List' I get this error: =================== Error loading addressbook. We were unable to open this addressbook. This either means you have entered an incorrect URI, or the server is unreachable ==================== I can ping the server. If I start from the command line I get this at startup time: ===================================== $ evolution CalDAV Eplugin starting up ... (evolution:14554): e-data-server-ui-WARNING **: Key file does not have key 'exchange:__myusername;auth_NTLM owa domain com_' evolution-shell-Message: Killing old version of evolution-data-server... ** (evolution:14641): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution --component=mail %s ** (evolution:14641): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution ** (evolution:14641): WARNING **: LDAP authentication failed (0xffffffff) ====================================== When I click on the Global Address book I see this at the command line: ==================================== (evolution:14641): eab-widgets-WARNING **: EABView at present does not support multiple writes on the "source" property. ====================================== Thanks in advance [Date Prev][Date Next] [Thread Prev][Thread Next] [Thread Index] [Date Index] [Author Index]

This address book cannot be opened. Please check that the path (null) exists and that permissions are set to access it. Detailed error message: Other error ================================================== == the main reason i believe it is doing this is because the emil settings were backed up from a 9.10 and installed to 9.04 9.10 has the "cloud" or ubuntu1 feature. 9.04 doesnt have this if i boot the pc with a 9.10 cd and restore the evolution data i can see the address book and all is well. if while i have the address book open in 9.10 that i booted from cd and save a contacts a a vcard and import it , it says it imported it, and gives no errors and you cant see any contacts listings. any ideas? thanks Ubuntu user # 16304 www.nocleanfeed.com If someone asks you to sudo rm -rf anything, don't do it, and don't run any command with rm in it unless you
