Note: Default cursor location on prompt starts from C Drive "C:\windows>_", so be sure to change the cursor location to another Drive like D, E drives "D:\>_". You can switch the Drive by typing"D:" and press "Enter" or otherwise drive scan will not run properly. Step 3: Now when you enter into the D drive "D:\>_" type this command "CHKDSK(Space)C:" and press "Enter". CHKDSK (Check Disk) command will start scanning your drive and will fix the corrupt format problems by itself. Step 4: When the CHKDSK scanning completes, it will show you the current status of your scanned drive. After that just type "Exit" and then press "Enter", your computer will restart. Having this problem for some time I have been able to do a bit of research on the topic. This problem most often will occur when one is trying to install a new OS, the message will appear during the reboot portion of setup. I, however, had been running this system two years with no prior problems. When this was the case, for other people, the HD was often corrupted, damaged, old.
