drives to work, then use a machine with 4 sata connections to hook up my two drive and clone them that way, but after using Max to clone the 40 over the 320, and putting it back in the GX280, I get "Error Loading Operating System" from the 320 drive. I suspect the clone process did not make the 320 drive bootable, is there any way to fix that after the fact? error loading operating system linux I did boot the machine with the 320G drive using a Windows XP installation CD to get the repair module, so I can see the data, but it won't boot. I wish the GX280 had 2 SATA connections, if so, this would have been easy. I had to hook both the drive I wanted to clone, and the new drive I was cloning to in a third computer that had multiple Sata connectors on the Motherboard I just tried making a bootable CD using the MaxBLAST 5 Media builder and boot to the GX280 with the bootable CD, but that brings up an error "To use the product, you must have one Seagate or Maxtor Device on your system. What I want to do is create a clone of my C: drive as a snapshot bootable backup drive. I have https://forum.acronis.com/forum/16485 had ZERO problems creating the clone, but I have had zero luck getting the cloned disk to boot. I've read thru many forum posts and none touches my exact issue I think so here's my mehtod and problem as clearly as I can: - Install 'old' C: drive into motherboard SATA port 1, "new" C: drive into port 0. - Boot windows XP - Load acronis and select 'clone drive'. Select C: as source, F: (the drive letter assigned to the new drive) as the destination of the clone. (There are 2 DVD drives that consume D: and E:) - Allow acronis to repartition etc. the 'new' drive. (I tried both auto and manual methods with same results) - Select all partitions (2) on the C: drive for cloning. - Review all selections and kick off the clone. - At the end of cloning, a message appears regarding removing the old disk etc. It is at this point I become a little confused, but here is what I've done (several times): - hit key to power down machine. - Disconnect power and signal cables from the 'old' C: drive, leaving the

I used Partition Master to clone the old hard drive to the new hard error loading drive. When I installed the new hard drive, I get the error message "Error loading operating system" I visited this forum and viewed a few topics, one of which suggested using the recovery console from the install CD and executing the fixmbr, fixboot, and bootcfg commands. I've done that and still no joy. The recovery console detected the operating system which I told it to use, entering the administrator password.Dell Latitude D820, error loading operating Windows XP Professional SP3 Top Maverick Patriarch Member Posts: 1145 Joined: Wed May 05, 2010 9:06 am Re: Cloned hard drive "Error loading operating system" Quote Postby Maverick » Sun Jan 01, 2012 5:11 pm Dear PolyMike,Fixboot, and bootcfg commands are used to fix the boot loader issues. They are not suitable for your case. The first and second boot loaders in MBR and DBR both are fine in your disk. Your machine passed those boot steps. Just the copied system files are corrupted, and gave you the error when the machine was trying to load them. We suggest you use Windows XP installation CD to perform an in-place upgrade for this problem.
