Solved "Error loading error loading operating system xp fix operating system" when trying to load Fedora to blank HD - boot order correct Posted on 2015-10-15 Operating Systems Linux Distributions Linux Hardware 1 Verified Solution 14 Comments 78 Views Last Modified: 2015-10-23 Hi Experts, I'm trying to load a http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linuxquestions-org-member-success-stories-23/success-story-error-loading-operating-system-at-end-of-bios-bootup-239279/ fresh install of Fedora 9 (yes, it has to be that version) onto a freshly FAT32-formatted harddrive. I formatted my flash drive to FAT32 and made it bootable (using these instructions), and then burned the Fedora 9 Live iso with the Universal USB Installer program recommended. I changed the boot order in BIOS to USB then SATA, at which point I try to boot and get the "Error loading operating system" message. I've tried disabling the secondary boot so that https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28744505/Error-loading-operating-system-when-trying-to-load-Fedora-to-blank-HD-boot-order-correct.html it will only look for operating system from the USB, but then it just tells me to insert boot media and press a key, which means it's not reading the USB for some reason, even though the USB light is on. My question: What am I doing wrong? Is there something else I should check for that could be interfering with the boot sequence? 0 Question by:chelshaw Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 60 Active today Best Solution bygheist Fedora 9 does not support SATA. Some Lenovos, specifically ThinkPads, have blocked the ability to boot off of and load an O/S from a USB drive. This is generally only on Win8 machines but it can be on some with Win 7. It is the same with a Microsoft Surface. 0 Message Author Comment by:chelshaw2015-10-15 It's a raw set-up with just the SATA harddrive, processor board (Radisys), and a monitor. The hard drive had Windows XP before I wiped it, and the hard drive has allowed for booting from USB before, just not anymore. 0 LVL 2 Overall: Level 2 Hardware 1 Me

It still boots fine and I can log in on the console, but I can not move the mouse in xserver/xfce, wifi stopped working, and I have various other problems and errors when running commands, so I figured a reinstall would be easier. Now I followed the same steps as last time: put arch x86 netinstall on an empty 2GB FAT32 USB stick, using the Unetbootin tool. But when I boot from USB (press escape during boot, select the USB drive instead of SSD, press enter), it just gives me a black screen with the text:Error loading operating systemWhen I look on the USB stick, it looks very normal, like an arch install medium usually looks. Thanks for any tips in advance! It even clearly says on the website "arch up to 2010.05"...Gonna try one of the alternative methods.(editing topic title --> solved) Last edited by Feroxium (2012-10-17 14:25:29) Offline Pages: 1 Index »Installation »[Solved] Error loading operating system (USB install, unetbootin) Board footer Jump to Newbie Corner Installation Kernel & Hardware Applications & Desktop Environments
