Error Message Error Loading Operating System Cause Each virtual machine has VMDK descriptor file(s) in virtual disk(s), and there is a parameter "ddb.geometry.sectors" in a VMDK descriptor file. ESX always sets the parameter as a fixed value when creating the virtual machine. For instance, the parameter is set as 63 when a virtual disk is larger than 2GB. For details, please refer to the VMware KB 1026266 in below Solution section. Similarly, the parameter is set as the fixed value even if restoring a virtual machine where the parameter is set as the customized value (e.g. ddb.geometry.sectors = "53"). In this case, the parameter is different from the original one, and the restored virtual machine fails to be started with an error "Error Loading Operating System".
