Error Loading Operating System Dell
Howdy all. I was hoping someone -- ANYONE -- could help me with what has become the bane of my existence! Long story short, my first SATA drive, a Maxtor 6B250S0 died a few months after I got it, and was covered under warranty. Upon receiving the new drive, I wanted to GHOST (v10) the old EIDE ATA Drive onto the new SATA error loading operating system linux drive. The operation succeeded except I could not make the new SATA drive the system drive. I eventually gave up and decided to rebuild the system. I mention this only because I was able to successfully move all the contents of the old drive onto the new one (and I could access and manipulate the files, I just couldn't boot from the disk) -- the consistent problem was that after navigating the BIOS on boot up, I would receive "Error loading Operating System" when the OS should have taken over. Now to my existing problem. Actually, the same problem. I have killed the existing partition and low-level reformatted the drive. After copying all of the XP files onto the hard drive, I'm getting the same error -- "Error loading operating system". Here is what I have tried in no particular order: 1. Fixboot 2. FixMBR 3. Tried using Maxtors MAXBLAST to establish the a full 250 GB partition (running original XP disks; not SP1 or SP2) 4. Tried utilizing standard 137 GB partition via XP 5. Removed all EIDE cables except those utilized for CD-ROM/DVD

filled with bad sectors. I knew about one of them, but the other was working flawlessly up to that point, where now half of it is magically broken. I tried upping an XP Pro SP3 installation on the http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/error-loading-operating-system-xp.43072/ remaining one hard drive, which is an old Maxtor IDE one, sporting about 42 GBs of space. Then this message appeared out of nowhere after the first reboot, and after I tried everything, it still does the same. To make this more comprehensive, I will list what I tried so far: -Setting the access mode to Large -Setting the access mode to LBS -Flashing the BIOS, which was unnecessary to begin with because I had the http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1665877/error-loading-operating-system.html latest version already [ABIT NF8, version 1.9, correct me if I am wrong about this. Yeah, old PC is old] -Zero filling the hard drive from an Ubuntu Live CD [pretty much the only thing working on this PC] - not a thing changed afterwards -Changing the jumpers around -disconnecting and re-adding all the other hard drives, every combination -messing around with options in BIOS, I can't even remember what, but none of them even produced different error messages. -Installing Ubuntu on it. That time it gave me a simple "Read Error" line and then left it at that. -Installing Ubuntu on one of the other faulty drives, trying to start this one up from the boot menu [sorry, I'm new to linux, I'm talking about the screen where you can choose recovery mode and memtest], which threw me into a black screen with a command line and nothing else. -Trying Seatools for DOS to zero fill it - now this was funny. This piece of misery won't let me do any kind of erase on either this, or another Maxtor drive, the options are simply not there. I've read about this on the Seagate forums, and seen like a dozen people having this problem, and noone cared to answer them. I ran all kinds of tests on it though, and it says the driver is al

I'm a fairly well experienced Windows user but have been sticking with XP over the years as I was bitten first by the lack of device support for Windows XP64 and then the horrors of Vista. I'm still running XP on my business computers as I do a lot of work in acoustics and audio but I am going to slowly change over to Ubuntu as I can and will probably leave a small windows XP partition for the few things I will have to keep it for. Anyway, I am more than impressed with Ubuntu - on to my problems. I have a system which originally had two drives - XP on an 80gb Maxtor IDE drive with a Samsung 500gb SATA drive for file storage. I started off by using the Ubunbtu download to install alongside windows but it seemed pretty slow (My windows XP install was a few years old, had gotten very slow and also had some spy-ware problems I could not fix) So I then decided to try installing Ubuntu on a spare Western Digital 500gb IDE drive I had. After doing this I realized I would have been better using the SATA drive with the extra transfer speed this should give it. So I have ended up with the windows XP partition still on

Even though I'm a mac and linux guy at heart, I went the dark route and got a copy of xp. But I'm having trouble installing it, after it goes through the file copying faze of the install, and reboots. When it trys to boot from the harddrive I get this error: Error loading operating system. I did some google searching, and found that alot of people have had this problem, but have nto yet found a fix for it Here's my specs: Abit NF7 S2G, Nforce2 ultra 400 Amd Athlon xp 2400 Nvidia Geforce FX 5700 ultra 128 512 ram 2 60 gig maxtor ultra ATA/133 Only one of the harddrives is hooked up atm, just so that it doesn't conflict with my linux install. I spent about 3 straight hours trying to fix this last night, and 45 minutes this morning. And have been unable to get anywhere And I've got a lan party with some friends coming up this afternoon, so I REALLY want to get it working for that. So please, ANY help you guys can give, would be much appreciated. You've gone to the darkside and now you must suffer, muahahaha. Ahem j/k . If your Linux system is on the other removed drive, does that mean that you're trying to boot the system on a slave drive? I'm sure that IDE drive can only have slave or master drives and you have to install the OS onto the master drive. I knew someone who got a new hard drive and tried to install Windows and he
