They started using just RHEL (for the name) part way into version 4. I only say this because it could be more difficult to get support for 2.1 or 3. Anyhow, the "right" answer is probably to boot up a rescue CD and fix things from there. But.. welcome to the advanced class!! Repairing this could require some skill and knowledge. The fact that it no longer works tells me that the problem may not be simple at all. Personal opinion, find a local linux guru and see if he'll visit you during his/her lunch break.... I know for a lot of people in the Dallas area, that's what I do. Error Loading Operating System Dell
JarryG Error Loading Operating System on a LINUX VM ChevUribe Nov 24, error loading operating system mac 2014 1:20 AM Good PM!I would like to know your inputs regarding with our issue. We have a LINUX acronis error loading operating system xp fix image provided by our client and were trying to create a VM out of it.We used the VMware Converter 5.5.3 and we are converting it to an ESXI host 5.5 http://www.unix.com/red-hat/146076-error-loading-operating-system.html Update 2.Conversion was successful, but when we try to open the VM, "error loading operating system" encountered.Already done doing the same procedure again but this time created a snapshot of the VM first before trying to change the CPU and memory settings.BTW, the LINUX operating system is Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4).Tried to convert the same image https://communities.vmware.com/thread/496073?start=0&tstart=0 to a VMware workstation version 9 VM thinking that if it works in workstation 9, we will do another P2V from workstation to ESXi host but still same error encountered.Tried to do the P2V of the physical machine on-site but still same problem encountered. Here are my questions, please bare with me:1. Is this LINUX OS compatible to run in ESXi 5.5 Update 2?2. If compatible, Does we have a problem during P2V using converter 5.5.3 or should we use an older version of VMware converter?3. Does every VMware converter supports a different set of Acronis Image version? Thanks! 949Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. Show 1 reply 1. Re: Error Loading Operating System on a LINUX VM JarryG Nov 24, 2014 3:54 AM (in response to ChevUribe) I just suppose real hardware (on which that linux was installed and imaged and late converted to VM) differs from virtual (different disks/partitions/controllers, etc). That's why you can not simply restore image of physical system to VM and expect it to be working without touching its configuration. What I would do is:
