Then it should work fine. After you install Ubuntu, remove your USB and pc should boot into the Ubuntu installed on your drive. share|improve this answer answered Jan 30 '13 at 11:35 tikend 5472520 Universal USB Installer can also be used to make bootable ubuntu usb, which is a tool prescribed in Ubuntu website. –TheKojuEffect Jan 30 '13 at 11:59 1 did you set up bios correctly? –tikend Jan 30 '13 at 13:02 8 My housemate suggested I try it in FAT32 format instead of NTFS and it worked right away –user127259 Jan 30 '13 at 18:01 2 of cou

I was running Windows7 on my SSD but when the drive crashed, I decided to use that as an excuse to make http://askubuntu.com/questions/206999/loading-operating-system-boot-error-when-booting-from-live-cd the switch to Ubuntu. I've been experimenting with it on my old laptop until I got my SSD replaced under warranty. Now I have my SSD back and want to install Ubuntu on my desktop machine. I used UNetbootin to make a bootable flash drive. I then I went into my BIOS and made sure USB loaded before the hard drive. However, when I try to load it I get an error that says: Loading operating system ... boot error I know the flash drive works because if I reboot my laptop or my other Windows PC with the flash drive and it loads into Ubuntu...just when I try to do it in the PC with no OS currently on the drive. installation boot-failure live-cd iso share|improve this question edited Nov 10 '12 at 13:24 Jorge Castro 24.3k91386589 asked Oct 27 '12 at 2:01 jeremy 112 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote Try using the bootable flash drive made from the Startup Disk Creater. then try booting the PC with the flash drive. share|improve this answer answered Jan 21 '13 at

I hope you can help me. Here is my problem: I have a HD with few partitions. In the first one I've installed Ubuntu(Linux), and on the second one keep my Windows 2000 Professional. Now the only way I can boot error loading windows is with a floppy disk with ntldr, ntdetect.com and a boot.ini like this [default] timeout=30 [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)...partition(0) So I tried to repair Windows 2000 with the installation CD. Then I get to the console, and execute FIXBOOT and FIXMBR. But no I cannot log on my windows 2000. When I try to boot from HD, the following message error loading operating appears: "Error loading operating system". And now i cannot even logon with the floppy. How can I fix my computer to start Windows 2000, don't care about Ubuntu, don't want to delete either. using the live CD to boot because when I try to boot to this HDD it simply comes up with the error "Error loading operating system". It was working fine until I started reformatting a different drive with XP on it; since then it has had the error. As far as I know I need to reconfigure GRUB to boot to the correct partition, but I do not know how to do this.I know that there are already threads about booting/GRUB problems. I have looked at a lot of them but because no one has exactly the same problem as me I do not know what to do.
