The laptop has a key to enter the bios. The key to do this can be F1, F2,esc or Del key a second or two after power up. The splash screen should tell you what key to press to enter the bios also. I thought that maybe there was a problem with the partition table that gparted was not able to detect. So I used fdisk to reformat everything. After that it worked flawlessly
