What happens is, I can get past the BIOS screen, but after that, I see "Error loading operating system". I've really been unable to fix it... Startup repair says there's nothing wrong, System Restore doesn't work (it says that there are no restore points), and I've tried to use Bootrec to fix the BCD, but it was telling me that there were no Windows installations available. I've done all I can think of to try to fix it, except for reinstalling Windows or replacing the hard drive completely. Is there any way I can get around this problem? Today I thought it would be cool to dual boot with XP. I put in my xp disc and was going to make a new partition. For some reason, I wasn't able to make a new partition. Then I tried to boot back into Vista. I got a "error loading operating system" message. I did some searching and found that the problem is xp wrote over the vista boot record. The only solution I have found is to reinstall Vista, which I really don't want to do. Is there another solution other than reinstalling Vista? I already tried the repair start up from the Vista DVD and that didn't work. Make your computer dual-boot Vista and XP By Scott Dunn It's getting harder to buy a new computer with Windows XP installed and — after Microsoft stops selling XP on June 30, 2008 — it will become nearly impossible. Fortunately, you can have your XP cake and eat your Vista, too, by setting up your system to boot between the two operating systems. Although some manufacturers still give you the option of getting XP on your new system, that option is likely to dry up for most consumers later this year when Microsoft stops selling Windows XP. If you're not ready to dive into Vista all at once, there is an answer: set up your Vista computer to dual-boot between Vista and XP. In this a
