What happens is, I can get past the BIOS screen, but after that, I see "Error loading operating system". I've really been unable to fix it... Startup repair says there's nothing wrong, System Restore doesn't work (it says that there are no restore points), and I've tried to use Bootrec to fix the BCD, but it was telling me that there were no Windows installations available. I've done all I can think of to try to fix it, except for reinstalling Windows or replacing the hard drive completely. Is there any way I can get around this problem? Symptoms: 1. When booting normally after displaying the POST screen, the following error is displayed on a black screen: Error loading operating system. (The only way to exit this is to restart either by holding error loading down power button or by pressing Ctrl Alt Del. Unable to enter Safe Mode, the same error is displayed.) 2. When booting from Windows Vista DVD, the "Windows is loading files" bar is displayed, followed by the normall Vista loading bar, then just a solid black screen (after about two minutes of the normal Vista loading bar). The Vista 'Install Windows' dialog (allowing choice of Language, time/currency error loading operating format and keyboard options) is never displayed. (The only way to exit this is to restart by holding down power button. Even if left for hours, nothing happens.) What I've done: 1. Able to boot into another PE environment successfully from CD 2. Some forums have recommended this solutionto others in a similar situation, butthis does not apply. Assistance appreciated to resolve this ASAP. Regarding the error, you need to start Windows from Windows Vista DVD, launch System Restore, Startup Repair to troubleshoot the issue. Since another Windows PE image can be booted, you should be able to start Windows Vista DVD. Please check the Windows Vista DVD, is it an upgrade disc? If you don’t own a Windows Vista retail disc, you can visit the following link to download Windows Vista Recovery disc to perform Startup Repair. Windows Vista Recovery Disc Ple

Today I thought it would be cool to dual boot with XP. I put in my xp disc and was going to make a new partition. For some reason, I wasn't able to make a new partition. Then I tried to boot back into Vista. I got a "error loading operating system" message. I did some searching and found that the problem is xp wrote over the vista boot record. The only solution I have found is to reinstall Vista, which I really don't want to do. Is there another solution other than reinstalling Vista? I already tried the repair start up from the Vista DVD and that didn't work. Add an XP option to your new Vista system If a new computer arrived in your recent past, or you plan to buy one in the near future, chances are it will come with Windows Vista installed. Although some manufacturers still give you the option of getting XP on your new system, that option is likely to dry up for most consumers later this year when Microsoft stops selling Windows XP.
