just for the record, my idea of fun is absolutely not driving in snow wherever possible having totalled a error loading operating system windows 8 car many years ago in black ice. No problem, I'll work from home on my work laptop. So I popped upstairs to get the laptop out of it's case having been stored https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2023702 away for the last few days over Christmas. Hello… the bag seems a little light. Aargh. Yes, I left it in the office. No worries - I'll install another partition on my main home machine, VPN back to work and set it up to join the Microsoft corp domain. (Although you can VPN from a machine joined to my home domain, IPSec gets a https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/jhoward/2006/12/27/error-loading-operating-system-message-when-booting-windows-vista/ little upset at some things, so having a seperate partition domain joined is a lot simpler). My home machine is running Windows Vista. I figured I really didn't need Vista for work stuff as basically everything I was likely to do from home is connecting to remote machines in my office or browsing the Intranet. So… I went with XP for the work partition. There comes my first mistake. Of course, knowing that the boot loader setup is very different between Vista and XP, and you should consult the knowledgebase to learn how to re-install the Vista boot loader. KB 919529 has the information - Windows Vista no longer starts after you install an earlier version of the Windows operating system. Easy, so I thought. Nothing can possibly go wrong. So the XP install was now prompting me to reboot, but the setup itself wouldn't restart following the first reboot - I can't recall the specific error but am fairly certain it's the same one I had problems with all the way through - namely "Error loading operating system". Oh well, never mind, I'd had a change of plan and d

Having this problem for some time I have been able to do a bit of research on the topic. This problem most often will occur when one is trying to install a new OS, the message will appear during the reboot portion of error loading operating setup. I, however, had been running this system two years with no prior problems. When this was the case, for other people, the HD was often corrupted, damaged, old. After running several scans on my HD, I ruled out this possibility after failing to find the slightest error. Going on the possibility that the Windows installation may be corrupted (Note: I can boot Windows off a floppy disk, made to boot Windows XP) i tried the FixBoot and FixMBR functions on my install disk. No luck. I installed a working version of BartPE on my HD, and I got the same result when I tried to load that instead of Windows, this makes me think that the problem is not with the Windows installation. Just to be on the safe side though, i did a repair installation of Windows, no luck, upon restart I was confronted with the same message. Well, I figured, the problem must be with the BIOS. So I flashed it (the equivalent, in this case, of replacing the current BIOS with an updated version). Well, the new version came with a nice menu for booting options, but it didn't solve my problem, I still received the same error

Solved Error Loading Operating System Windows Server 2003 Posted on 2013-01-26 Disaster Recovery Windows Server 2003 Storage Hardware 1 Verified Solution 7 Comments 3,968 Views 1 Ratings Last Modified: 2013-01-26 I have a server with a RAID 5 array. It has two disk partitions set up as dynamic disks, one set up as drive letter C:\ and the other as drive letter I:\. I needed to shrink the size of the I:\ drive in order to make more space to increase the size of the C:\ drive that was running out of space. I used the AOMEI Dynamic Disk Manager Server Edition to resize the partitions. The Dynamic Disk Manager shutdown the system, proceeded to make the resizing changes, and reported that it had successfully made the changes. Upon rebooting the system, I got the dreaded "Error Loading Operating System" message. I promptly booted my Windows Server 2003 OS disk into the recovery console. I am able to see files on both partitions, including the c:\Windows directory. I figured the master boot record was corrupt, so I ran the "map" command and saw this output. c: \Device\harddisk0\partition1 I: \Device\harddisk0\partition2 I then ran the command "fixmbr \Device\harddisk0", and then rebooted. I still got the "Error Loading Operating System" message. I then went back to the recovery console and ran "fixboot c:". Rebooted and still the dreaded error message. I next try booting my Windows Server 2003 OS disk and perform a repair installation of windows. I can see the disk activity as data is being written to the disks. The repair install completes and I reboot, and the "Error Loading Operating System" message still appears. This still looks like a broken MBR, but I don't know how to correct it. Can anyone provide a solution? Thanks! 1 Question by:MGPDS Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 46 Active today Best Solution bynoxcho You cannot convert them to basic via recovery
