Pop it in and when it prompts you to repair it, follow the steps. adrian_johnson, Apr 6, 2009 #2 Bossard Thread Starter Joined: Jan 3, 2009 Messages: 128 I did. When I try to boot from the Windows 2000 disk it comes up with the same error I read before "error loading operating system". That's weird because I am booting from the https://forums.techguy.org/threads/windows-2000-error-loading-operating-system.816407/ CD rom drive at this point. Bossard, Apr 6, 2009 #3 DoubleHelix Banned Joined: Dec 9, 2004 Messages: 24,388 Either the boot order isn't correct in the BIOS or the disk isn't bootable. DoubleHelix, Apr 6, 2009 #4 Bossard Thread Starter Joined: Jan 3, 2009 Messages: 128 I took the hard drive out and put it in another computer with the same specs and get the message "error loading operating system" when I try to boot into Windows. That tells me the problem is with the hard drive and not the BIOS. I know the test computer has a good BIOS. It doesn't indicate however why I get "error loading operating system" when I try to boot from the Windows CD rom. Bossard, Apr 7, 2009 #5 DoubleHelix Banned Joined: Dec 9, 2004 Messages: 24,388 What I mean is that are you positive you changed the boot order in the BIOS? Did you set the CD drive to boot before the hard drive? I didn't mean there was something wrong with the BIOS, just that you may not have configured it correctly. The problem is obviously with the operating system installation on the hard drive. However, your Windows 2000 installation disk may not be bootable. Then you need to use either a boot floppy or other boot CD. DoubleHelix, Apr 7, 2009 #6 Bossard Thread Starter Joined: Jan 3, 2009 Messages: 128

In the Command window, type: format a: /s and press Enter two times, where a: is the floppy drive letter. 4. Press Enter when prompted for a volume label. 5. Type n when prompted to format another diskette and press Enter. 6. Type copy c:\windows\command\fdisk.exe a: and press Enter. 7. Close the Command Windows. To use Fdisk.exe. 1.
