I want to dual boot XP, so I started to install it and, when it rebooted, got the "Error loading operating system" message, which was expected since XP wipes out other MBRs. No biggie, I can just boot to a prompt using the Win7 disc and fix it there, right?Nope. When I try that I get "Press any key http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?p=22100830 to boot from CD" and then a blank screen with nothing but a flashing cursor. ::sigh:: Okay, so let's boot using the USB drive I installed Win7 from.Nope.When I do that I get "Error loading operating system" again. WTF?So, anyone know how I can fix this because right now I have a computer whose only function is BIOS tweaking. RobL777 Ars Tribunus Angusticlavius Tribus: SouthEastern U.S.A. Change the boot order so that BIOS looks in the CD drive first, then goes from there. This should allow the Win 7 repair CD to work, if you quickly "Press any key..." after the POST. You may have to use the Win 7 repair disc several times in a row in order to retrieve your Win 7 install. It is still true that you want to install older Windows operating systems first, then later ones. In order to get around this in your situation, you could use the Easy BCD boot loader app. Put it on the Win 7 install, install Win XP to another partition, or hard drive, then knit the two operating systems together with the Easy BCD boot loader. This make take some study and effort on your part to do successfully. hux "Wonder en is gheen wonder" Ars Legatus Legionis Tribus: The lands of milk and curry (.uk) + milk and shooty (.us) Registe

I have a 500GB HDD with these partitions Screenshot.png I'm currently using the live CD to boot because when I try to boot to this HDD it simply comes up with the error "Error loading operating system". It was working fine until I started reformatting a different drive with XP on it; since then it has had the error. As far as I know I need to reconfigure GRUB to boot to the correct partition, but I do not know how to do this. I know that there are already threads about booting/GRUB problems. I have looked at a lot of them but because no one has exactly the same problem as me I do not know what to do. I would really appreciate any help, Thanks in advance, Arachan.
