Having http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/209358-32-error-loading-operating-system this problem for some time I have been able to do a bit of research on the topic. This problem most often will occur when one is trying to install a new OS, the message will appear during the reboot portion of setup. I, however, had been running this system two years with no prior problems. When this was the case, for other people, the HD was often corrupted, damaged, old. After running several scans on my HD, I ruled out http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/error-loading-operating-system.129383/ this possibility after failing to find the slightest error. Going on the possibility that the Windows installation may be corrupted (Note: I can boot Windows off a floppy disk, made to boot Windows XP) i tried the FixBoot and FixMBR functions on my install disk. No luck. I installed a working version of BartPE on my HD, and I got the same result when I tried to load that instead of Windows, this makes me think that the problem is not with the Windows installation. Just to be on the safe side though, i did a repair installation of Windows, no luck, upon restart I was confronted with the same message. Well, I figured, the problem must be with the BIOS. So I flashed it (the equivalent, in this case, of replacing the current BIOS with an updated version). Well, the new version came with a nice menu for booting options, but it didn't solve my problem, I still received the same error message. I was out of ideas until a ran across a solution. In other cases I found, the BIOS would be reading the HD with the wrong geometry. So if the HD on the BIOS was set to CHC, and the HD should be read as LBA, it would not work. I thought this must be it. I went into BIOS setup and discovered that there were two options: AUTO and LARGE. Currently it was set to AUTO.

After http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/error-loading-operating-system-after-disk-clone.179032/ a Disk cloning to migrate my Windows installation to the Seagate HD, I leave this second HD alone and start my computer. I'm receiving "Error in loading operating system" and Windows cannot start. HD is Bios recognized. All my files are inside. I have tried fixmbr and fixboot in Windows Recovery console without success. Some idea? wert, Jul 2, 2007 #1 Brian K Imaging Specialist Joined: Jan 28, 2005 Posts: 8,515 Location: NSW, Australia error loading wert, How did you clone? Was the Seagate internal or external during the clone? Did you remove the Maxtor before booting to the Seagate for the first time? Was the Seagate partitioned or a blank new HD? Did you clone using TI in Windows or from the Acronis TI boot CD? WinXP OS? Brian K, Jul 2, 2007 #2 wert Registered Member Joined: Jul 2, 2007 Posts: 10 - I'm using the Clone error loading os option of main menu. I have Windows XP sp1. - Both disks are internals. Both are SATA, both 80 GB. - Seagate was blank formated NTFS. Also Maxtor is NTFS. - Maxtor has 2 partitions. In the cloning process I have choose "equilibrating option" to made 2 new partitions in new Seagate. No problems in the cloning process and all data were copied. - I had remove Maxtor HD before startup Seagate first time - Cloning operation was made in Windows, then excuting Acronis in the same source Maxtor HD. I don't know where is the failure... I can see all dates. It seems the only failure is in the boot process. I have tried a fixboot and fixMBR without success. I will be happy to know any advice before trying again. thanks in advance wert, Jul 2, 2007 #3 Brian K Imaging Specialist Joined: Jan 28, 2005 Posts: 8,515 Location: NSW, Australia Did you connect the Seagate to the Maxtor SATA port on the motherboard after you removed the Maxtor? That's what I do. Brian K, Jul 2, 2007 #4 wert Registered Member Joined: Jul 2, 2007 Posts: 10 yes. also I do that. Don't you apply some special thing to copy MBR?. It is my main concern. Also, I wonder if it would be better cloning both disks
