Some times getting this property will take a very long time, 5 mins to 1.5 hours, to throw and exception.System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040000): Error loading resource string at SourceSafeTypeLib.IVSSVersion.get_VSSItem()I have not been able to narrow down or identify any contributing factors. Any help is much appreciated. Most of the time it just works. When it does not work it is this way for a at least a few hours and then starts working again. The commandline exe and the gui client do not seem to be effected, they continue to work without error. Thanks,Jay Thursday, January 04, 2007 7:39 PM Answers 0 Sign in to vote I will have to look for that next time it happens.I forgot to update the thread on what happened next, thanks for the oh yah. Some part of what was happening was do to destroying/purging of files. You can not get the Item if it has been destroyed/purged. This does not account for the times I have observed a reboot make it all work. Then again there may have been more cooks in the kitchen, doing things that I did not know about.Guess we will have to wait for it to happen again to find out more. At least for a time. If the current patterns holds it will be failing again this Wednesday or Thursday. If I do a history between two labels it gives the history for all time not between the two labels. We are about to reboot now... few months later, as we were considering building this capability into a product. A couple more times after that, I posted updated versions with a later and later expiration. Well, I'm happy to announce that we've decided to release the source code for this application. It requires .NET 1.1, and build files are included for Visual Studio .NET 2003. This really is a cool app…it runs as a Windows service, and generates RSS feeds based on the change logs in VSS. And now it's free, unlimited, and ready for you to play with. :-) The copyright and license are included in the readme.rtf in the https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e0044172-47cc-4faa-976b-8e813ff25269/0x80040000-error-loading-resource-string-ivssversiongetvssitem?forum=vssourcecontrol package below - basically, it's an unrestricted modification and redistribution license. download source: VssRssSvc.zip 21 Comments This entry was posted in Uncategorized on November 22, 2004 by gregr. This application is the reason I bought Newsgator. So that I http://www.rassoc.com/gregr/weblog/2004/11/22/rss-and-sourcesafe-2/ could read all the checkin/checkout comments in Outlook. It worked very well except that it used a lot of memory. Some digging around on google found me http://blogs.msdn.com/korbyp/archive/2003/10/06/54194.aspx. Which led to a simple code change that reduced the working set by an order of magnitude: from 150MB to 15MB roughly. Content Manager for Windows http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21657106 Client R5.1? Technote (FAQ) Question I'm using the Content Manager Client for Windows R5.1. If I launch FRNWVIEW.EXE from my CM Client installation directory, I see the error from File Handler saying "Unknown error: Cannot load resource string. C:\path name\PXTRAN32.ENG". Why might this be? error loading Cause It could be that you copied your FRNWVIEW.INI file from a 32-bit operating system machine and now you're running a 64-bit operating system, which uses a different Program Files path. Answer Inside the FRNWVIEW.INI file in your Windows directory, there will be listed the error loading resource paths to your file handlers. For example, It is possible that the path you copied from the other machine does not match the path on this machine. For example, if you're now running a 64-bit operating system, the "C:\Program Files" part of the path most likely needs to be "C:\Program Files (x86)". Fix the path in the FileName setting of the FRNWVIEW.INI file so that the Content Manager Viewer can find the path to our file handlers/engines.
