← Previous Next → MotionBuilder: Error loading the resource strings atstartup Posted on January 30, 2011 by xsisupport Sometimes I'll see a case in the queue, and I'll get curious to see if I can
Android Resource To String
find the answer. In this case, there was the error message "Error loading
Android Get String Array From Resource
the resource strings", so I googled it and then searched through the our old support cases. I didn't find a error loading resource library satisfactory answer (suggested resolutions like "creating a new user profile" seem like overkill to me). So I fired up Process Monitor and logged a MotionBuilder startup. When I had the log, I http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=843 spent a couple of minutes filtering down the results so I could focus on the file activity in user-specific folders like C:\Users\blairs\AppData\Local\Autodesk\MB2010\ Sure enough, after about a minute of looking for some kind of file that suggested "resource", I saw this file: C:\Users\blairs\AppData\Local\Autodesk\MB2010\config\ADLM\res\en-US\AdlmIntRes.xml So, I opened AdlmIntRes.xml, corrupted it by deleting just enough to make the XML invalid, restarted MotionBuilder, and voila: How to fix https://xsisupport.com/2011/01/30/motionbuilder-error-loading-the-resource-strings-at-startup/ this problem? It the file is missing or corrupted, you can force Setup to recreate the file by removing MotionBuilder, renaming the C:\Users\blairs\AppData\Local\Autodesk\MB2010\ folder (for example, to MB2010.bak), and reinstalling. Otherwise, if the file seems ok, then it could be a permissions problem, or some kind of environment/configuration problem (Process Monitor would help figure it out). In general, Process Monitor is a great way to learn about an application. In this case, I spent some time learning what files MoBu reads at startup, and what's in those files (I spent some additional time browsing through the various text files that MoBu opens). I know how to use the LoadString() api, but this involves me having a different variable for every string I want to load, and if my application has 100 strings, thats alot of variables. Is this the best way to do this? Or should i create a global variable thats used as a buffer to load the strings as needed? Also since there's no way of knowing how big my string is should I just create a big enough buffer to hold any string i could possible have, or is there a better method of doing this? Also is loading the strings as needed bad for performance? Is there any way i can preload them? RE: Okay i've tried creating a buffer 256 bytes in size and loading the strings into that as needed, though i ran into a little problem... Here's my code thats displaying an error message, the error is "Error allocating memory!" LoadString(g_hInst, IDS_ERROR_MEMORY, szBuffer, sizeof(szBuffer)/sizeof(TCHAR)); MessageBox(NULL, szBuffer, TEXT("Error"), MB_OK | MB_ICONERROR); ExitProcess(1); And I have my buffer as a global variable: TCHAR szBuffer[256]; This works but, id like to also store the "Error" text into the string table and load that when I want to display the error, problem is that would require me to have 2 global variables to load the strings, and there are some p
