I have run the symptom tree and nothing seems to be wrong there. I have tried the reinstall disk but don't know much about the recovery to fix the problem. Thanks in advance. A majority of the problems are http://superuser.com/questions/95367/sptd-sys-from-daemon-tools-kills-my-boot-win-xp-media-center-edition reported by users on Media Center Edition (possibly some conflict with a driver that ships on the OS). The issue is that I can't boot up (including in safe mode) without loading that driver. If I go with the prompted safe mode, after loading AGP440.sys it prompts me to hit enter to load SPTD.sys, but whether I hit enter, escape, or wait, it still bluescreens and restarts. Theory Since I can't boot up in safe mode, I can't even get to a place where I can just uninstall the thing. I'm guessing my best bet is to dig out my xp CD and boot into the recovery console so that I can axe it. I'm probably going to eventually just start over with Ubuntu on this thing since it's really a productivity laptop, but at this point I'm in recovery mode because I'd like to get everything vital off of it before making any long-term decisions, so please don't give me grief about having a media center PC... I'm well aware of its problems. Question : Is there a way to remove this driver without booting from a recovery disc? If so, what is the process to do this? windows-media-center safe-mode share|

Had a crash last night, and now every time I boot it blue screens. Booting in safe mode gives me a problem at the SPTD.sys file (I've read the thread but I error loading can't even start in safe mode). No matter how I boot, I still can't seem to stop it from blue screening and restarting. I really don't care if it removes daemon tools in the process, I haven't used it once sinec I got it, I just need my computer to boot again. Any suggestions? A year ago without maintenance might mean that ur Windows has crashed or worse an iminent hard disk failure. Formatting can solve your problem rather than Scandisk+Defrag. This is often specified in the very top of the blue screen, for example "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE", "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED", "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL", etc. Does it mention a specific driver file? Doesn't it say "Press ESC to skip loading sptd.sys" (or something very similar) when trying to boot into Safe Mode? Unfortunately, the blue screen flashes so quickly before the restart that it's impossible to read.
