If that fails then try holding the Shift button on http://www.justskins.com/forums/plug-in-papermetadata-api-209725.html the keyboard whilst double-clicking the Acrobat icon to launch the program without plug-ins. There are also no entries for it in Google (see

Top 1. docbox.api plug-in loading error Hello: I am running Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 5.05.2001092400 (As reported by the Windows Properties of Acrobat.exe.). I update error loading whenever the popup requests me to check for updates. My problem is that I get a ( ? ) type flag when starting the reader. The flag says "There was an error while loading the plug-in 'DocBox.api'. The plug-in failed to initalize." I then click on the OK button and the program loads error loading the and seems to function fine after that. Charactoristicly I do not like anything on my computer that indicates an sort of untoward operation. Is there any thing I can do, short of uninstalling and re-installing the program? If you don't need this feature, you can just rename the plug-in to something that does not have the .api extension. Go to c:\program files\adobe\acrobat 6.0\acrobat\plug_ins and rename this file to e.g. PaperMetaData.api.inactive and see if Acrobat does start. It's possible that it does not start because of some other plug-in that's not available or not correctly initialized (again, according to the page I quoted, this plug-in requires the AcroForm, EScript and XFA plug-ins. What OS are you running this on? 0 Message Author Comment by:johnbowden2006-04-05 that's got it! thanks 0 Message Expert Comment by:insearchworldwide2008-04-11 There is another solution if you want to keep the plugin: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=330649 0 Write Comment First Name Please enter a first name Last Name Please enter a last name Email We will never share this with anyone.
