Pop it in and when it prompts you to repair it, follow the steps. adrian_johnson, Apr bios windows 2000 6, 2009 #2 Bossard Thread Starter Joined: Jan 3, 2009 Messages: 128 I did. When I try to boot from the Windows 2000 disk it comes up with the same error I read before "error loading operating system". That's weird because I am booting from the CD rom drive at this point. Bossard, Apr 6, 2009 #3 DoubleHelix Banned Joined: Dec 9, 2004 Messages: 24,388 Either the boot order isn't correct in the BIOS or the disk isn't bootable. That tells me the problem is with the hard drive and not the BIOS. I know the test computer has a good BIOS. It doesn't indicate however why I get "error loading operating system" when I try to boot from the Windows CD rom. In the first one I've installed Ubuntu(Linux), and on the second https://forums.techguy.org/threads/windows-2000-error-loading-operating-system.816407/ one keep my Windows 2000 Professional. Now the only way I can boot windows is with a floppy disk with ntldr, ntdetect.com and a boot.ini like this [default] timeout=30 [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)...partition(0) So I tried to repair Windows 2000 with the installation CD. Having this problem for some time I have been able to do a bit of research on the topic. This problem most often will occur when one is trying to install a new OS, the error loading operating message will appear during the reboot portion of setup. I, however, had been running this system two years with no prior problems. When this was the case, for other people, the HD was often corrupted, damaged, old. After running several scans on my HD, I ruled out this possibility after failing to find the slightest error. Going on the possibility that the Windows installation may be corrupted (Note: I can boot Windows off a floppy disk, made to boot Windows XP) i tried the FixBoot and FixMBR functions on my install disk. No luck. I installed a working version of BartPE on my HD, and I got the same result when I tried to load that instead of Windows, this makes me think that the problem is not with the Windows installation. Just to be on the safe side though, i did a repair installation of Windows, no luck, upon restart I was confronted with the same message. Well, I figured, the problem must be with the BIOS. So I flashed it (the equivalent, in this case, of replacing the current BIOS with an updated version). Well, the new version came with a ni
Before following the steps below, if you are getting an error make sure to search our site for the error message first and look through our Windows 2000 Q&A page. Ensure that your computer BIOS settings are correctly configured to the hardware that is installed in your computer. Improper settings in the BIOS may cause various errors when first booting an IBM compatible computer. These errors often occur as the computer is first booting and may stop the load process of the computer. Error messages while Windows is loading Errors that occur while Windows 2000 is loading or prevent Windows from loading are likely being caused by a configuration error in the Registry. If you have recently changed or installed something that could have caused Normal Windows to stop loading, try loading the last known good configuration. Additional information about how to do this can be found on document CH000627. If you can't start Normal Windows, try booting into Windows 2000 Safe Mode and then trying to resolve your problem. If you were unable to resolve your issue through Safe Mode, restore the Registry using scanreg. Additional information about how to backup and restore the Registry using the scanreg utility can be found on our Registry page. Other error messages that occur while Windows is loading or after Windows is loaded If errors occur but Microsoft Windows still loads, verify no issues or conflicts exist in Device Manager. If errors are found, read through our Device Manager page for steps on resolving issues. Ensure that if programs are loading automatically that these errors are not associated with these programs. Many times utilities, such as virus programs, may load when Windows first starts and cause errors to occur. If you believe that your startup errors are associated with another program, refer to our basic software troubleshooting. Make sure Windows 2000 is up to date by checking Microsoft Windows update page. Additional information about updating Microsoft Windows can be found on document CH000545. If your computer has a virus protection program installed, make sure it is up to date and that no viruses are being detected. If your computer does not have a virus protection program, you may want to consider installing a program to make sure no viruses are causing your proble
