put midas.dll on the desktop then the error message does not appear and the application runs normally. How to handle midas.dll so I can place it in the same folder? delphi datasnap share|improve this question edited Sep 17 '14 at 15:25 Jan Doggen 4,386123168 asked Sep 16 '14 at 20:07 X-88 9117 That's more than weird. Having the library in the same folder as your executable should be enough (this article confirms that by "If you need to distribute this application you may also need midas.dll missing to deploy this library to a location where the application can find it." which means that your app. is not searching for midas.dll in some predefined path, but is most probably using the common DLL search mechanism). –TLama Sep 16 '14 at 20:21 but what if I put midas.dll at C: \ Windows \ System32 as the default Delphi applications can did not detect the presence of midas.dll? why it should be put in place that is not supposed to (Desktop)? I've tried on the previous OS: XP, Seven & Linux BT5-R3 all goes as in the picture?!?! ... –X-88 Sep 16 '14 at 20:24 1 Don't ever write to system32 –David Heffernan Sep 16 '14 at 20:33 5 Just for curiosity : Why are you using the midas.dll and not the MidasLib unit? –RRUZ Sep 16 '14 at 20:43 1 I think @manlio is correct and comments about how you are loading Midas.Dll are maybe missing the point; the Delphi r/time code which loads Midas.Dll primarily uses its registration entry in the Registry in order to locate it. A couple of details missing from your q, though: Are you running on Windows 64-bit or 32-bit, and which of those is your project targeting? (or does your Delphi pre-date 64-bit compilation?) Oh, and as usual, DavidH is 100% correct - if you feel the need to write to System32, most likely you are doing something wrong. –MartynA Sep 16 '14 at 22:18 | show 3 more comments 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up v

At the startup users were getting an "Error loading Midas.dll' message. This problem wasn't familiar to us so we did some research. A lot of application are build on the 3-layer model where data, logic and presentation are separated from each other. Each of this layer can be located on a different computer or server, this is called Multitier Distributed Applications. The Midas.dll is used to deliver the interface which each part is using. When users are getting the message "Error loading Midas.dll' the system is having a problem with finding or opening the file. So here's what you can do to fix it. Find the location of the Midas.dll by searching the local drives on the computer where the application is installed. Once you've located the dll file right click on it and select 'unregister' from the dropdown list. Now right click on the dll file again and select 'register' from the dropdown list. After the midas.dll file is registered again the problem should be fixed.
