I am able to pull the drive out of the G5 and put it in error loading kernel cache 0xe a USB external enclosure.I can get it to show up as an external but after a few minutes of copying the

It would appear that the OS is hosed, thus preventing boot.You should boot to a seperate drive and pull the user files off in a drag and drop fashion if at all possible.Data Rescue 3 would definitely be able to pull the files, though the resource forks will be gone, with the need to sort remaining. I have booted from another mac and have mounted the bad drive that is now in a USB enclosure. I can start to copy files off and have also tried DR3 but the drives disconnects/unmounts part way through. When I restart the laptop the system gets stuck in the loading screen (Apple logo and loading gif) with the fans spinning as if there was no tomorrow. I error loading kernel tried booting in safe mode (power the computer holding shift) but no changes. It booted again with no problem, then I started to plug in one by one, in the end the mouse (not apple one) was the one bringing out the hardware conflict. I just replaced it and now everything is working smoothly.
