Having the library in the same folder as your executable should be enough (this article confirms that by "If you need to distribute this application you may also need to deploy this library to a location where the application can find it." which means that your app. is not searching for midas.dll in some predefined path, but is most probably using the common DLL search mechanism). –TLama Sep 16 '14 at 20:21 but what if I put midas.dll at C: \ Windows \ System32 as the default Delphi applications can did not detect the presence of midas.dll? why it should be put in place that is not supposed to (Desktop)? This article describeswhen and how. I've discussed a number of ClientDataSet topics in the articles that have appeared in this series, but I have not said much about how to deploy applications that use ClientDataSets. Now that I think about it, this is a topic that I should have covered earlier, error loading midas but as the old saying goes, better late than never.
The fact is, if you include even one ClientDataSet in your application, you need to take at least one additional step in order to deploy that application to another machine. Fortunately, the step is pretty simple. You either have to deploy an additional library with your application, or you have to manually add the MidasLib unit to your project's uses clause. To best understand this, let's create a simple application that includes a ClientDataSet, and then look at the modules that get loaded when you run it. Use the following steps: Create a new project, and add a ClientDataSet to your main form. Set the FileName property of the ClientDataSet to a local ClientDataSet file. At the startup users were getting an "Error loading Midas.dll' message. This problem wasn't familiar to us so we did some research. A lot of application are build on the 3-layer model where data, logic and presentation are separated from each other. Each of this layer can be located on a different computer or server, this is called Multitier Distributed Applications. The Midas.dll is used to deliver the interface which each part is using. When users are getting the message "Error loading Midas.dll' the system is having a problem with finding or opening the file. So here's what you can do to fix it. Find the location of the Midas.dll by searching the local drives on the computer where the application is installed. Once you've located the dll file right click on it and select 'unregister' from the dropdown list. Now right click on the dll file again and select 'register' from the dropdown list. After the midas.dll file is registered again the problem should be fixed.
