This is a new drive so it doesn't sound like you'd be losing anything. –Nicole Hamilton Feb 7 '13 at 1:05 Did you get a recovery disk with your laptop? –b-vigilanT Feb 7 '13 at 1:20 I just put the new hard drive in and was installing the operting system and the power went out. When powering it up, you should see a prompt appear that tells you a particular key to press to enter Setup etc (eg. Press F11 to enter setup.) One of the menu items that will appear should include Boot order (or something similar.)
user turn the computer power on, after running POST successfully computer jumps to load the operating system installed in the user computer's Hard Disk Drive (HDD). In case of Windows XP sometimes it appears that it shows http://how2repair.blogspot.com/p/how-to-repair-error-loading-operating.html an Error written "Error loading operating system". This Error appears most probably, when a computer shutdown improper like power failure, etc. This cause the operating system installed format corrupt and thus computer fails to recognize the OS installed on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_2VCxklwmU HDD. Unknowingly users install a new copy of OS and it caused them lost of their data, instead of installing a new copy of OS on your computer's HDD, It has a solution which is quiet simple and very less error loading time consuming. Just follow the steps below and you'll get your windows running again like before. Step 1: Boot your computer with the help of Windows XP Disc (Try to use the same disc, the one you use to install your previous OS). Step 2: when the installation wizard ask you these three options: Press 'Enter' to install a new copy of windows XP. Press 'R' to repair. 'F3' to quite. Select option number 2 "Press 'R' error loading operating to repair". It will direct you to Command Prompt (DOS). And then just follow the instructions given that time appearing on your Display Monitor/LCD. Note: Default cursor location on prompt starts from C Drive "C:\windows>_", so be sure to change the cursor location to another Drive like D, E drives "D:\>_". You can switch the Drive by typing"D:" and press "Enter" or otherwise drive scan will not run properly. Step 3: Now when you enter into the D drive "D:\>_" type this command "CHKDSK(Space)C:" and press "Enter". CHKDSK (Check Disk) command will start scanning your drive and will fix the corrupt format problems by itself. Step 4: When the CHKDSK scanning completes, it will show you the current status of your scanned drive. After that just type "Exit" and then press "Enter", your computer will restart. Now you can run your windows like it was running before on your computer. NOTE: This procedure can also be useto fix same problem in Windows VISTA. Forward to 2:00 in the video and press R. If given the option press 1 and enter. For whatever reason I wasn't given that option, but was taken to the C prompt and typed fixmbr. You get a Caution, just type Y. It takes a second to do. Then type exit and do the steps above again to take you to the set up page. Type R and then 1 and enter if given the option.
