document. This file cannot be found." Chandzer Jan 5, 2011 3:18 PM Sorry if this is a retake on another thread, but the search engine on these forums isn't very intuitive, and the only thread I could find was related to installing Reader 9 after removing Reader X.I get the below error message when I try to open a PDF there was an error opening this document. this file is damaged and could not be repaired file via a hyperlink in a XLSM spreadsheet. Excel locks up for a moment and Reader then opens the file (which it had just said it couldn't find...?). The file doesn't open until the message box has been dismissed (and Excel has un-frozen). Opening the same file via Explorer or the Reader "Open a Recent File" list or Reader "File" menu does NOT produce the same error. This issue ONLY started occurring after upgrading to Adobe Reader X. Reader 9 had no issues with opening these files via the same spreadsheet.System Information:OS: Windows 7 Professional (32-bit)Excel: Microsoft Excel 2010 version 14.0.4760.1000 (32-bit)Reader: Adobe Reader X version 10.0.0 (assuming 32-bit...)File Information:Applications: PScript5.dll version 5.2.2PDF Producer: Acrobat Distiller 9.2.0PDF Version: 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)

The following error appears there was an error opening this document. access denied when opening a PDF from a link "There was an error opening this there was an error opening this document. this file is already open or in use by another application document. File cannot be found." The same links open successfully into Acrobat Reader on this machine via Flock 2.5.1 (Firefox/3.0.12), there was an error opening this document the network path was not found Google Chrome 2.0.172.39 and IE 8.0.6001 A quick search of the web turns up the following; "The problem has to do with having spaces in the path/filename of the PDF that is passed https://forums.adobe.com/thread/773869 to Adobe Reader when opening it. If there are spaces in a path/filename, Adobe Reader will not parse it. To correct the problem, the application launching the PDFs need to embed literal double quotes around the path/filename." -- lkassuba on the Acrobat user forums There are many other posts mentioning this issue. This may be *an* issue but it I suspect that it is not the case https://visibleprocrastinations.wordpress.com/2009/08/20/there-was-an-error-opening-this-document-file-cannot-be-found-acrobat-reader/ here as pages that had worked up to last week no longer work. These URL's do not have any spaces although the local temp files will have spaces as they use "C:\Documents and Settings\…" file path. Some further searching uncovers the advice to select "Display PDF in browser", many people will have removed this functionality as the workaround to the Acrobat Zero day vulnerabilities earlier this year; In Acrobat Reader, open the Preferences dialog under the Edit menu. Select "Internet" from the category list on the left panel of the dialog. Select "Display PDF in browser" Click OK -- goodiegoodman on the Acrobat user forums This fixes the issue/incident, but it would be interesting to discover the underlying changed that has created the problem. Is it Acrobat, Firefox or a 3rd party change? limn Share this:TwitterFacebookTumblrLinkedInGoogleLike this:Like Loading...
