When I http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/4637/are-layer-files-compatible-between-arcgis-10-and-9-3 attempt this in ArcMap I receive "Add Layer Failed - Adding the selected layer file failed." message. Can anyone tell me if this is expected behavior? I did not see this behavior in ArcGIS 10.1 beta or 10.1 Prerelease. Thanks, danielri Jul 17, 2012 12:19 PMCorrect AnswerDid some more research and found the following:Layer files pointing to a single data https://geonet.esri.com/thread/55503 layer created within ArcMap 10.1 return the error message indicted when loaded into ArcMap 10.0. Grouped Layer files pointing to several data feature classes with ArcMap 10.1 do NOT return an error, but only the Name of the Group Layer will be shown in ArcMap 10.0, no data will be added/available and no error will be shown. To address this issue:In ArcMap 10.1, when using the 'Save As Layer File' option (selected by right-clicking on a feature class name in ArcMaps's TOC), use the 'Save as type:' pulldown to choose the layer type (version). While working in a mixed 10.0/10.1 environment it will be necessary to save all layers that will be shared using the 10.0 Layer Files option.Enjoy!RichSee the reply in contextNo one else had this questionMark as assumed answeredOutcomesVisibility: GIS1694 ViewsLast modified on Jul 17, 2012 11:11 AMTags:gisContent tagged with gisdesktopContent tagged with desktopThis content has been marked as final.
