Network Printer Error Printing
is ready but there's error when printing By wandersick · 8 years ago Hi there. We've set up a Canon MP988 network printer (connected to router) in theprinter server (running Windows Server) of a company。We can see its statusis ready, which I suppose should mean the driver has been properly installedand everything is OK, even its management web page can be accessed fine. However, it gives error when printing. What could be the cause?Sorry for sounding printer says ready but won t print newbie-ish, but I would really like to know the ports thenetwork printer uses for sharing, as I want to telnet to the port to see ifthere's anything (e.g. strict firewall rules) that is blocking thecommunication between the network printer and the Windows server. If that path is not blocked, then maybe we need to send the printer torepair; if the path is blocked, then it should be firewall, correct?"How Network Printing Works"http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc783789.aspx#w2k3tr_prntt_how_fxbiI checked this Technet article for the ports I need but I really lack thisknowledge. Is this what should be tested? Port 9100 for "Standard TCP/IPport monitor" (RAW)"I don't think it is about SMB / RPC ports as the network printer is not aWindows OS. Am I wrong in saying so?Thanks and sorry for my ignorance.mixty Share Flag This conversation is currently closed to new comments. 4 total posts (Page 1 of 1) + Follow this Discussion · | Thread display: Collapse - | Expand + All Answers Collapse - Printing by BFilmFan · 8 years ago In reply to network printer is ready ... Install the print drivers on a PC.Print directly to the IP address that is assigned to the printer. If that works, the issue is between the server and the printer. If that does not work, you have an issue at the printer. 0V

Join Now Hi All, We are experiencing issues with several Network printers failing "Error Printing" It seems to be randomly affecting 3-4 printers error printing on our network. We have taken several steps to resolve this such as 1) Updating all drivers 2) Updating Server + Rebooting The only way to clear the printer up is to stop the print spooler service and delete the files from the windows32 spool folder. But that only temporary fixes the issue until a few hours later. We've had a printer engineer out and it's not the actual printers that are causing the problem Please could anyone help network printing error suggest a fix for this? You may find, as I have done recently, that a network printer installed on a Windows Vista starts suddenly showing as Offline even when other machines on the network can access it fine. I originally thought it would be an IP address issue, but it turned out not to be anything to do with that. In fact, the solution was far simpler - but also slightly strange… It turns out that Windows Vista automatically enables SNMP support for networked printers, and if it can't get a response to a SNMP message then it assumes the printer is offline. SNMP stands for Simple Network Management Protocol and is a way of getting information from network devices (such as routers, servers and printers), mainly for the purposes of finding out if there are any problems with the devices. A number of networked printers implement SNMP, and will respond to SNMP queries with information, but some don't. My printer (a fairly old Lexmark T640) is one of the ones that doesn't implement it - so of course Vista will never get a response to a SNMP message. The result of which is that the printer will start showing as offline at a seemingly random time because Vista has just sent a SNMP message to it, and it hasn't responded. Thankfully there is a simple way to fix this - and it just involves telling Vista not to try and communicate with the printer via SNMP. Simply right-click on the printer in the Printers window, choose the Ports tab, and select Configure Port. At the bottom you will see a checkbox saying something like SNMP Status Enable. Untick that, and the printer should start showing as online again. That should be it…but here are a few other tips/observations from people who've commented on this post: This has been found to work on a variety of versions of Windows including Windows
