The data is located on a remote (Linux) server which only allows SSH2 connection. I'm able to connect to the server with putty. For eclipse I use plink as ext connection method. When I try to open a new repository location in Eclipse I receive an "Unable to Validate" error: Error validating location:"Unknown response received from cvs server: Last login: Mon Jul 28 13:00:50 2003 from 10.94.1.22 " Notice the new line! I've been through the newsgroup and searched the internet but it seems I'm stuck. Plink seems to work ok since it can establish a connection to the server. The response seems to confuse Eclipse. Could it be the new line? I've tried to start eclipse with the follwing parameters -vmargs -Dline.seperator=\n but to na avail. Any help or leads are more than appriciated. My Machine: Eclipse 1.2.1 Java 1.4.2 (Sun) Win2k Pro Putty 0.53b Plink ? CVS Server: CVS 1.11.1p1 Report message to a moderator Re: cvs ext on win2k problem [message #102871 is a reply to message #102848] Wed, 30 July 2003 07:59 Eclipse User Originally posted by: eweij.cgey.nl Problem solved! It was not due to Eclipse but to plink. I tried to use a saved Putty session. I specified -load sesname as parameters. This seemed to work since I could log in. However when I only specified the session name as a parameter all worked like a charm! "vdweij"

Upon adding a new CVS repository location and validation I get back: "Unknown response received from cvs server: " I then realized that I cannot connect from cygwin. I then figured out that I needed to have an entry in the .rhosts file on the server. This worked for cygwin but it does not help for usgin CVS in Eclipse. I then tried connecting from a DOS window and I https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/t/31713/ cannot connect, I get back: ' from cvs serverning: unrecognized response `ok I think there's something wrong with cygwin's rsh (which I placed in the windows PATH). When I set the CVS_RSH variable to (also cygwin's) ssh, I get this: ssh: connect to address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port 22: Connection refused Any ideas? Thanks Normal is in the eye of the beholder Matthew Phillips Ranch Hand Posts: 2676 posted 13 years ago https://coderanch.com/t/102283/vc/Connecting-CVS-server What connection type are you using in Eclipse? Eclipse has an ssh implementation if you set the connection type to extssh. Then you shouldn't need to use cygwin's ssh. Matthew Phillips Leslie Chaim Ranch Hand Posts: 336 posted 13 years ago I using :ext. I also tried :extssh and it did not help. Normal is in the eye of the beholder Leslie Chaim Ranch Hand Posts: 336 posted 13 years ago I just got it to work It appears that Eclipse uses it's own inernal CVS_RSH var. I found this seeting in the drop down menu Window->Preferences->Team->CVS->Ext Connection Method I set it to point to a different rsh program (from cygwin) and it works.
