Cause: The cluster network name resource failed to register dns name the handle is invalid cluster name resource which has been added to the DNS prior to setup active passive cluster ( or any type) need to be event id 1579 updated by the Physical nodes on behalf of the resource record itself. When the active node owns the resources it want to update the A record in the DNS database and DNS record which was created won't allow https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773529(v=ws.10).aspx any authenticated user to update the DNS record with the same owner Solution: Delete the existing A record for the cluster name and re-create it and make sure select the box says "Allow any authenticated user to update DNS record with the same owner name "Don't worry about breaking anything , this has "ZERO" impact to cluster simply delete the A record and re-create as it is suggested here. While checking the possible cause of the issue I found out that the Cluster Name DNS record had been created manuallyCreating a static record for the Cluster Name resource is absolutely fine and helpful to the record getting deleted due to aging/scavenging but you need to take proper care in the way DNS Record permissions are assigned for example in the picture below there are no permissions for the Hyper-V-Cluster computer accountNote: To display the Security tab you need to enable the Advanced Features DNS Management ConsoleThis can easily solved either delegafor Help Receive Real-Time Help Create a Freelance Project Hire for a Full Time Job Ways to Get Help Ask a Question Ask for Help Receive Real-Time Help Create a Freelance Project Hire for a Full Time Job Ways to Get Help Expand Search Submit Close Search Login Join Today Products BackProducts Gigs Live Careers Vendor Services Groups Website Testing Store Headlines Experts Exchange > Questions > Windows 2012 Cluster Error Event 1196 Want to Advertise Here? Ensure that the network adapters associated with dependent IP address resources are configured with at least one accessible DNS server. I've done everything I could find online regarding this error including, but not limited to: Giving full control permission to the cluster name in DNS Giving the cluster name, full control to the DNS servers to update records. Delete the cluster name and recreate using the (Allow any authenticated user to update DNS record with the same owner name) option. The heartbeat NICs are not configured for DNS/DHCP. and there are no cNAME or any other DNS entries for the Cluster Name in any of the DNS servers. Checking the binding order of the nics, using and setting them as network at the top, hyper-V virtual network interfaces in the middle, and iSCSI adapters at the bottom. unused adapters below that.
