Join Now Environment: W2008 R2 domain https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/191443-dhcp-client-service-won-t-start controller, holds DNS and DHCP roles. My question is two-fold: On the DC, http://www.eventid.net/display-eventid-7023-source-Service%20Control%20Manager-eventno-345-phase-1.htm the DHCP client and DHCP server services are both set to automatic. Question #1: Since this server does hold the DHCP role, is it even necessary to have the DHCP client service running? Any repercussions to disabling this service? Both DCDIAG and DNS diagnostics pass. The client service will not start event id and fails with error 127: the specified procedure is not found. That leads me to my bigger concern. On a member server (W2008 R2) that will be holding my Exchange 2010 application, I have the same problem. Due to the DHCP client service not running, the WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-discovery service cannot run either (dependent on DHCP client). I get the same error code event id 7023 on the DHCP client service for that server. Both servers have static assigned IP addresses but I believe I need the Win HTTP service running for proper Exchange operation. Haven't found any info online specific to these issues. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you. Monitor an unlimited number of servers with $49/year With the current low prices for servers and the need for processing power, even a small company may end up with quite a few of them. If ten years ago it was still common to see an entire company using just one server, these days that's no longer the case. New computers are added to the network with the understanding that they will be taken care of by the admins. Keeping an eye on these servers is a tedious, time-consuming process. Even with 5 minutes per server (to check the logs and other parameters), it may take an hour to make sure that everything is ok and no "red lights" are blinking on any of the servers. read more...
