Event 414 Task Scheduler
R2 Domain Controller DNS Server. Event ID 414 was being logegd in this server. Computers in the domain were not applying Computer event id 7001 windows 10 Group Policies. User Policies were successfull however Computer policies were failing. Using the GPUPDATE /F for foring GPO updates did not work. Removing the computer from the domain and then re-adding it to the domain worked but was not https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc735800(v=ws.10).aspx a good fix for many computers. The solution was to edit the TCP parameters in the registry on the domain controller/DNS server. In the registry, the domain name key was empty as shown in the image as there may have been a registry corruption. DNS server machine currently has no DNS domain name This is the location in the registry as shown in the posted image. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters Use the Registry Editor https://pctechnow.wordpress.com/2014/03/17/dns-server-machine-currently-has-no-dns-domain-name/ to remove hostname and domain name entries and then re-create the registry entries. I renamed the original entries and then created new ones. Once successful, the renamed "bad" keys can be removed. If you prefer, make a backup of the registry entries before editing. This was done on a live domain controller DNS server. There was no impact on users and this did not require a reboot. There was another domain controller on the network for users and computers to use while this process was taking place. 1. Delete (rename) Hostname, Domain, NV Domain, and NV Hostname. 2. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value. Re-create each of the entries. 3. Modify the value for each of the entries and add the hostname and doamin name respective for each key. 4. Restart the Net Logon service. 5. Restart the DNS server service. You will no longer see Event ID 414. 6. In the DNS console, go through each of the sections and add the domain name part of the server name whereveer it is missing. The full full fqdn name of the server will now remain and not get changed back to just the server's hostname. Share this:TwitterFacebookGoogleLike this:Like Loading... seeing Event 414 after each reboot. There is no domain at this site. All workstations and this Win2k server are configured as members of a http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/event-414-source-dns-in-workgroup-server.2672491/ workgroup named COMPANYNAME. Googling turns up lots of advice about dealing with single-label domain https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/24610074/DNS-event-ID-414.html names, but not sure how this would apply to a workgroup. TIA Frank Frank Denman Denman Systems [Please delete the "x" from my email address] Frank B Denman, Aug 7, 2006 #1 Advertisements Paul Bergson Guest If you have a dns server it should be considered hosting a domain so even in a work event id group setting you need to be hosting a domain name. I'm guessing you aren't doing this. Follow below, it doesn't matter that you are a work group. From KB 259302 414 (Warning) DNS_EVENT_SINGLE_LABEL_HOSTNAME The DNS server computer currently has no DNS domain name. Its DNS name is a single label hostname with no domain (example: "host" rather than "host.microsoft.com"). You might have forgotten to configure a primary DNS event id 414 domain for the server computer. For more information, see either "DNS server log reference" or "To configure the primary DNS suffix for a client computer" in the online Help. While the DNS server has only a single label name, all zones created will have default records (SOA and NS) created using only this single label name for the server's hostname. This can lead to incorrect and failed referrals when clients and other DNS servers use these records to locate this server by name. To correct this problem: 1. Open Control Panel. 2. Start the System tool. 3. Click the Network Identification tab. 4. Click Properties. 5. Type a domain name or work group name. This is used as your DNS domain name. 6. Reboot the computer to initialize with new domain name. After the reboot, the DNS server will attempt to fix up default records, substituting new DNS name of this server, for old single label name. However, you should review to make sure zone's SOA and NS records now properly use correct domain name of this server. -- Paul Bergson MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, CNE, CNA, CCA http://www.pbbergs.com Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is prov

Make sure you have the most updated DNS Forwarders in place from your ISP. Make sure you have DNS suffix listed for your domain. 0 Message Active today Author Closing Comment by:jskfan2009-07-29 Thanks 0 Write Comment First Name Please enter a first name Last Name Please enter a last
