account only takes a few minutes. Join Now All: I am currently having some flaky issues with one of my Domain Controllers (Windows Server 2003). In event id 4007 my environment, I currently have two DC's. As of right now, I am seeing kdc service errors on the 2003 DC, in the fashion that it cannot contact the DNS Server (Which is itself...). I am

also receiving multiple errors in the Event Viewer (Event ID 4000), stating that the DNS server was unable to open Active Directory. I have also noticed that all forward, and reverse zones are not https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc735673(v=ws.10).aspx available on this DC, as they are AD integrated. Relating to this issue, however still weird, is the fact that I have two shares on the local drive of this machine. These shares are not reachable by FQDN, but they are reachable by IP. I have other shares on other PC's, that I can resolve no problem by FQDN (Remember, I have two DC's in my environment)? So I https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/296657-primary-dns-server-unable-to-open-active-directory am curious to why the shares on the server having issues are not accessible by fqdn? Shouldnt DC #2 pickup this fqdn of the share? Any help would be appreciated! Reply Subscribe View Best Answer RELATED TOPICS: The DNS server was unable to open Active Directory. In other words, it points to itself for DNS. 2) Reload the Zone 0 Sonora OP IT_CHAD Jan 29, 2013 at 5:17 UTC Randy: 1) Yes, the flaky server is using itself's as it's DNS 2) I am not able to reload the zones? I completed a restart of the DNS, but after the restart, I receive numerous Event 4007 in the log. These are noting that the DNS was unable to open my zones? Any ideas? 0 Habanero OP Randy1699 Jan 29, 2013 at 5:33 UTC Del
but to ease the transition it was decided that the new office should be set up as a branch office for around a dozen staff beforehand. Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now We have four DNS servers setup by the previous IT department years ago. They are 007-RAS-01, 192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.36 and PADC-03. After doing a WSUS update, PADC-03 lost access to Active Directory and I get the attached errors, which is ID 4000 and 4013. The DNS server was unable to open the Active Directory. This DNS server is configured to use event id directory service information and can not operate without access to the directory. The DNS server will wait for the directory to start. If the DNS server is started but the appropriate event has not been logged, then the DNS server is still waiting for the directory to start. I'm not skilled enough to know how to get this DNS server back online. Can someone help with some advice? I mistakenly ran Windows Update and rebooted 192.168.1.10 and PADC at the same time, which I think caused this error. Phil 0 Habanero OP Sean Wolsey Jun 21, 2013 at 4:34 UTC Have you rebooted the server with the other servers all up? I know it sounds simple, but we've all overlooked the obvious and simple at some time. 0 Anaheim OP pkinstle Jun 21, 2013 at 4:39 UTC Yes, I rebooted PADC and can ping the other DNS servers. I also restarted DNS Server. Another suggestion was to Stop the DNS Service and change to Manual, then reboot and restart DNS Service, but that didn't work either. :( Phil 0 Thai Pepper OP DSM55 Jun 21, 2013 at 4:47 UTC Is this server a DC? Which others are DCs? Also, does this DNS server point to itself for DNS in network settings? 0 Anaheim OP pkinstle Jun 21, 2013 at 5:03 UTC Yes it is a DC, and it is not point to itself in DNS settings. It is pointing to the other DNS 192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.36. PADC-03's Static IP is 192.168.1.27 Phil 0 Datil OP Sean Donnelly Jun 21, 2013 at 5:11 UTC Is this a multi-homed server (PADC-03) if so do you have an IP address
