Citrix Background: I've seen a number of hosts with the error "Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The specified user does not exist. http://whatevernetworks.com/?p=148 ). Group Policy processing aborted.) After trying rejoining the domain and http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r15352107-2K3-Event-ID-1053-Windows-cannot-determine-the-user checking OU etc, I called Microsoft. The issue turned out to be slow link detection with the domain controllers. Example: Event Type: Error Event Source: Userenv Event Category: None Event ID: 1053 Date: 4/13/2012 Time: 3:49:01 PM User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: SERVER Description: event id Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The specified user does not exist. ). Group Policy processing aborted. RESOLUTION: We just need to disable slow link detection on the computer and user environments in the registry: You may have to create the "System" keys if they don't exist HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System Value name: GroupPolicyMinTransferRate Value type: DWORD Value Data: event id 1053 0 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System Value name: GroupPolicyMinTransferRate Value type: DWORD Value Data: 0 Please refer to: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;910206 for more information. From what I gather it is a DNS issue, so that is what I'm troubleshooting. The complete error is:Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (Access is denied) Group Policy processing aborted. The setup:2 Domain Controllers that are also DNS Servers, both have Active Directory integrated zones, setup with both primary zones for forward and reverse lookup.DC1 points to DC2 for primary DNS, points to itself for secondary DNS.DC2 points to DC1 for primary DNS, points to itself for secondary DNS.DHCP is enabled for the workstations, providing DC1 as primary, DC2 as secondary. DHCP registers DNS.For testing purposes, I set DC2 to point to itself for primary DNS. I've tried deleting the zones on DC2, uninstalling the service and then reinstalling, recreating the zones. At which time I've stopped/restarted the netlogon service, as well as registering the DNS again. I then hardcoded the DNS info for that particular DNS server on a workstation, manually registering the DNS and forcing a group policy update. Same error. That should have fixed it if it were a corrupt DNS table, but it didn't, so I'm not sure where to go from here. Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm stumped! Thanks,Mike · actions · 2006-Jan-28 10:34 pm · BillRolandPremium Memberjoin:2001-01-21Ocala, FLkudos:3 BillRoland Premium Member 2006-Jan-28 11:01 pm I'm sure you already tried this, but just in case,»www.eventid.net/display. ··· &phase=1 · actions · 2006-J
