some of you know, I inherited a network with DNS problems. I have been trying to clean it up manually, but as I clean, I have noticed that the DHCP dynamic

updates have been failing for a very long time. The IP range that is serviced the dhcp/binl service on the local machine encountered a network error. the error was: 0x 2. by DHCP is in the very worst shape, *none* of the reverse DNS entries are correct, and there are multiple duplicates. dhcp 1056 server 2012 I just noticed that when the DHCP server boots up, there is a warning message: Event Type: Warning Event Source: DhcpServer Event Category: None Event ID: 1056 Description: The DHCP service has detected that it is https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/282001 running on a DC and has no credentials configured for use with Dynamic DNS registrations initiated by the DHCP service. This is not a recommended security configuration. Credentials for Dynamic DNS registrations may be configured using the command line "netsh dhcp server set dnscredentials" or via the DHCP Administrative tool. This message gets buried pretty quick, and I didn't really pay much attention to it because it wasn't a red splat, only a https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/14088-dhcp-credentials yellow warning. But I think it may be the root of some of my probs. I am pretty sure this server was restored from a backup shortly before I came to work here. And from reading DHCP Help and MSKB articles, the credentials are not restored from a backup. No one knows what the credentials were. So what should I set them to? The machine account? System? The Domain Admin account? I have no idea. What is the default? I tried looking at the Properties, Advanced, Owner of a few individual DNS records, but they vary. Most are System, but there are some machine names that I don't recognize - don't know if they are even on the network anymore.
