do a DNS zone transfer from our domain. Those servers are not on our allowed list (configured on our DNS server). My question is, how do I configure a rule that allows queries to our external DNS but do not allow domain transfers (or allows zone transfers but only for requests from authorized hosts)? We have a split DNS and the DNS Server on the ISA Server machine is only listening on the external IP address. Our internal DNS Server is not using the isa server dnsas a forward server. Any ideias on how to do this? This is a bit annoying because the zone transfer request gets inside into our domain controller and leaves a warning on our system event log. Thank you for your help fsantos spouseele -> RE: How to configure DNS zone transfers? (3.Feb.2006 8:39:11 PM) Hi fsantos, first of all, zone transfers are happening on TCP port 53. However, also other DNS requests can happen on TCP port 53. Therefore there is nothing you can do to control zone transfers at the firewall level. On the other hand you said that you have a split DNS and that the DNS advertiser for the external world is hosted on the ISA Server machine itself. Correct? Canyou explain than your statement: quote:This is a bit annoying because the zone transfer request gets inside into our domain controller and leaves a warning on our system event log. The DNS advertiser for the external world should have no connection with the internal DNS server at all! HTH, Stefaan fsantos -> RE: How to configure DNS zone transfers? (3.Feb.2006 10:49:16 PM) Regarding my statement, what I've noticed is that I have a zone transfer request on the external dns and at the same time, I have an unauthorized on my domain controler. It looks like the external dns is asking the DC to authorize the transfer.
