Monitor an unlimited number of servers with $49/year With the current low prices for servers and the need for processing power, even a small company may end up with quite a few of them. If ten years ago it was still common to see an entire company using just one server, these days that's no longer the case. New computers are added to the network with the understanding that they will be taken care of by the admins. Keeping an eye on these servers is a tedious, time-consuming process. Even with 5 minutes per server (to check the logs and other parameters), it may take an hour to make sure that everything is ok and no "red lights" are blinking on any of the servers. read https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c6dd2abb-47a2-47f9-bcb2-945e45044564/the-dns-server-recv-function-failed-the-event-data-contains-the-error?forum=winserverDS more... Event ID: 7050 Source: DNS Source: DNS Type: Error Description:The DNS server recv() function failed. The event data contains the error. Data: 0000: 46 27 00 00 English: This information is only available to subscribers. An example of English, please! Comments: Anonymous As per TE783622, this is a normal message and there is no action needed. x 24 EventID.Net The error in the data portion of the event can be translated into a more meaningful message. For example, data http://www.eventid.net/display-eventid-7050-source-DNS-eventno-4151-phase-1.htm shown as 46 27 00 00 is in fact error 0x00002746 or 10054 in decimal. This translates to: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. According to a support forum post, this occurs when an established connection is shut down for some reason by the remote computer. And it will be hard to find out the exact reason. In general, occasional occurrence of this event should not affect DNS server functionality because the server has robust retry logic." x 35 Anonymous This happened exactly once so far on our internal Win 2k3 DNS servers at exactly the same time. After investigating the problem, it seems that an IT person who was running a port probe across the entire subnet caused it. See ME199792 for more details. x 28 Private comment: Subscribers only. I am receiving https://groups.google.com/d/topic/microsoft.public.windows.server.dns/yf1naiRgZnI repeated 7050 errors on my dns servers. I was wondering what could be causing these? The DNS server recv() function failed. The event data contains the error. Data: (word) 0000: 00002746 More about : repeated 7050 errors Anonymous 21 August 2004 06:22:01 Archived from groups: microsoft.public.win2000.dns (More info?) x2746 is a Winsock connection reset. Not event id possible to say exactly why from the post, other than speculation: You may have a firewall with a too-aggressive TCP timeout, or somebody may be port scanning you, or there could be an errant workstation on the LAN issuing corrupt packets, or misconfigured ISA server. Anyway, it will be something along those lines. If you can't narrow it down, and nobody else knows of a specific cause for this error 7050 dns on this forum, crank up a sniffer (Ethereal or Netmon for example), and capture the stuff to decipher what is going on.
