error %2. This event is generated when the Service Control Manager cannot properly terminate a service. The name of the service and the error generated by it are displayed in the event. Troubleshooting Review the service-specific error information To resolve this issue, first review the service-specific error code that the Service Control Manager encountered when trying to stop the service, and then review the Event logs for other related events that have been logged by the Service Control Manager (SCM) Eventlog Provider. To perform these procedures, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. Review the service-specific error code To review the service-specific error code: Click the Start button, Run, then type cmd to open a command prompt. Type sc query service_name (where service_name is the name of the service) at the command prompt to display the service-specific SERVICE_EXIT_CODE error code that the Service Control Manager encountered when stopping the service. Note: If the service was stopped successfully, the SERVICE_EXIT_CODE field should contain a zero (0).

is installed on D drive. We had misconfiguration of data drives (SCOM DW) on this server. We moved data between drives E,F and G which has SQL data, logs,Temp DB to fix our https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13754.event-id-7024-service-terminated.aspx drive issues. We rebooted the server and then our SQL server service is not starting and we have event 7024 "the specified resource name cannot be found in the image file " We changed it to local system and it works. Service account still has all permissions and but service is not starting if we use service account. Any ideas~Cheers, Rohit Kochher Wednesday, March 14, https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/803c88ae-1d9b-498b-9508-fd6f4d8fe899/sql-server-service-not-starting-event-7024?forum=sqlsetupandupgrade 2012 1:51 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote Hi Joe Thanks for your response. This account had permissions at SQL level earlier. I added this account now to Local adminstrator group on SQL server and it worked :) Is there any harm on running SQL Server service using Local system?~Cheers, Rohit Kochher Marked as answer by Rohit Kochher Thursday, March 15, 2012 7:25 PM Wednesday, March 14, 2012 6:34 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote Glad things are working again. Running the SQL Server service as local system or an account that is amember of the local administrator group are both not recommended. Both afford far greater privileges than necessary for SQL Server to operate. This goes against the principle of least privileges and exposes your server and the rest of your environmentto potentially much greater damage if someone found a flaw in one your of your applications and exploited it. For example, if your application is vulnerable to SQL Injection attacks, the malicious user can cause a lot more damage because the service account has sysadmin level privileges on the server.
