need to find a better solution for the production environment. I also notice that if I go to add a user or group to the local Administrators group, it does not display the domain as a location from which to add users, just the local computer and "Entire Directory". Interestingly enough, if I select "Entire Directory" and enter a samid, it resolves it fine. Can someone point me in the right direction to resolve windows could not determine if the user and computer accounts are in the same forest this issue? Thanks Tuesday, March 23, 2010 10:25 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Hi Joe, According to your description, I understand that your domain group policy does not apply to Windows 2008 R2 server. To troubleshoot this issue, please ensure the following items: 1. Ensure the server has network connectivity to your domain controller. 2. Verify the DNS name resolution via type the following command from the Run command line: C:\>nslookup domain.com The fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of a domain controller should be displayed. 3. Ensure whether the server is able to access domain's SYSVOL folder. \\FQDN_of_Domain\sysvol 4. Run "rsop.msc" to verify whether the GPO is applied in the result. I can see the sysvol folder on all DCs in site. Running the rsop.msc returns an interesting error: Unable to generate RSoP data in logging mode.... Details: Invalid namespace. Small Business Server, (Amy Babinchak just hit it the other day and inspired this blog post) it can also happen in workstations. A past forum post showcases this issue is not new: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/8210cfc3-f424-4550-86a9-b0a70a1569b3/last-known-good-changed-the-computer-name Normally last known good will work as it should and allow you to boot into the last time you had a successful boot as noted in http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2011/08/05/last-known-good.aspx But in a fact pattern I’ll call the “Last Known Good” bug, there’s a sequence of issues that will cause a major issue with the booting of the domain controller. This will impact anyone outside of the Pacific time zone – that is anywhere from UTC-7 to UTC+11:30 Symptoms: The computer name is correct when viewed in properties of Computer. However the DNS server shows a computer name Win-XXXXXXX, Active Directory is unable to start and NetLogon Service doesn’t not start.
