microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support (More info?) Hello - I hope someone can provide assistance to resolve what appears to be a Win XP issue. We use a Win 2000 Server https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0408b395-c46f-4c4a-b898-831555b62a3a/lsasrv-event-id-40961?forum=winservergen in the office, with both Win 2000 and Win XP clients. We recently demoted a Win 2000 server and promoted a new Win 2000 server to replace. Afterwards, the old Win 2000 server was removed permanently. The new Win 2000 Sever event log appears to be mostly clear of any error and warnings. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/79781-45-lsasrv-event-40961 However, client PCs with Win XP (SP2 installed) show an LSASRV Event ID 40961 warning every hour, on the hour when the PCs are logged into the network. In checking the warning, it provides the following info: The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server DNS/prisoner.iana.org. No authentication protocol was available. There is also a hotlink that provides the following additional information: Windows Operating System ID:40961 Source:LSASRV Version:5.2 Symbolic Name:NEGOTIATE_INVALID_SERVER Message:The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server %1. No authentication protocol was available. If someone could provide some guidance on what exactly is causing this issue and how to resolve, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. I've got domain A and domain B, A event id 40961 trusts B, but B does not trust A. I'm trying to run a service in domain A with a user account from domain B and I keep getting Access is Denied. I'm using the FQDN after the username and the password is correct. The user account from domain B is a local administrator on the domain A server, the user account has the logon locally, and as a service permissions. Must. Get. This. Working. Update: I found something interesting in the logs I must have missed. This ought to get me pointed in the right direction. Event ID: 40961 - LsaSrv : The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server ldap/{server fqdn/fqdn@fqdn} No authentication protocol was available. I've found a few fixes for 40961 but nothing has worked so far. I've verified reverse lookup zones. nslookup resolves the correct dc properly. still workin' at it. Upadte: In response to Evan; I ran " runas /env /user:ftp_user@fqdn "notepad" " then entered the users password and notepad came up. It seems to work successfully. active-directory permissions service not establish a secured connection with the server
