Join Now Hi, We've received the below error log https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/371395-event-id-6008-unexpected-shutdown occasionally on our servers. Mostly and only on windows server 2003 SP2 Std Edition. Googling the event ID mainly points out to heat issue or some sort of memory failure but this server is on a virtualised http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/event-id-6008-the-previous-shutdown-was-unexpected-event-id-1076-0x805000f.61121/ environment (VmWare esxi 4.1) along with its companion which doesn't have this issue. However, I did run boot time mem for atleast 3 cycles and no issues were reported. The hardware is a HP DL 380 event id G5 and I did run diagnostic tool and all looked good from hardware perspective. Finally regular AV scans are run and I highly doubt if its a malware attack. Any suggestions? ------------------------------------ Event Type: Error Event Source: EventLog Event Category: None Event ID: 6008 Date: 18/08/2013 Time: 10:10:15 AM User: N/A Computer: XXXXXX Description: The previous system shutdown at 8:14:13 AM on 18/08/2013 was unexpected. According to MS: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326564 This is an issue with a program that is forcing the system to shut down. This could be as simple as using a remote tool, like logmein, to reboot the system. This thread shows you how to identify the program causing the shutdown if you are unsure: 1 Poblano OP bg_vignesh Aug 21, 2013 at 4:10 UTC Hi, Thanks for that. I guess it was the APC monitor applciation that might've caused this as we did swap the UPS around. So far no issues. But your answer did help. Thanks. 0 Poblano OP bg_vignesh Jan 22, 2014 at 5:52 UTC Hi, I'm starting to get this unexpected shutdown again. Though I've enabled the settings to store the complete membory dump and also to automatically restart after the system shutsdown, none of the above is actually performed.
