I have worked so much with this that it feels like I have seen all the possible issues one can meet when configuring this. Both for helping you guys, http://blog.coretech.dk/msk/common-issues-when-working-with-certificates-in-opsmgr/ and as a notepad for myself, here’s the issues (and solution) I met on my way: First of all, make sure no firewall is blocking the communication. You can test this by telnetting port 5723 both ways. Issue: no certificates available in the certificates dropdown list when requesting a certificate Explanation: unless you grant anonymous access to CertSrv, you will get access denied/it won’t work Solution: in IIS, disable Anonymous Authentication and enable Windows Authentication for the CertSrv website Issue: MOMCertImport.exe fails with: The certificate is valid, but importing is to certificate store failed. Error description: Catastrophic failure Error Code:8000FFFF Solution: When exporting the OpsMgr/server certificate, make sure the “Include all certificates in the certification path if possible” box is not marked. This one is marked as default in Server 2012. I haven’t done a thorough test, but I am pretty sure the other two can be checked without problems. Issue: Event 21016 OpsMgr was unable to set up a communications channel to MS and there are no failover hosts. Communication will resume when opsmgr.company.com is avail
Domain B or a DMZ (untrusted), and in there you have a Gateway Server. You've ensured certificates are configured correctly, Port 5723 is open across the firewall, and that clients can resolve & communicate with the Gateway http://www.dreamension.net/?p=628 Server in Domain B. You manually install the SCOM 2012 agent on a server in Domain B. You then look in the Operations Manager log, and you see Event ID 20070 "The OpsMgr Connector connected to gatewayserver.domain.local, but the connection was closed immediately after authenticate occurred. The most likely cause of this error is that the agent is not authorized to communicate with the server, or the server has not event id received configuration. Check the event log on the server for the presence of 20000 events, indicating that agents which are not approved are attempting to connect." You look at the Operations Manager log on your Gateway Server, and you see lots of 20000 event ID's "A device which is not part of this management group has attempted to access this Health Service. Requesting Device Name: agent01.domain.local" Ahh - that's right, event error 20000 you have to approve manually installed agents. So you jump back to your Operations Manager Console, and you look in the Administration pane, at Pending Management (under Device Management). But there are no agents listed there. What the…? Resolution This has caught me out, and it's a really simple fix. By default, SCOM/Operations Manager will reject manually installed agents automatically. You need to change the setting in the Administration Pane -> Settings -> Security to "Review new manual agent installations in pending management." Once this is ticked, you should see the agents come up in Pending Management within a few minutes, where you can approve them. As a security best practice, I do not recommend enabling "Automatically approve new manually installed agents". As the administrator, you should always verify each agent when it is manually installed (especially by someone else). « DreamensioN presents Universal Language 056 (with DJ Dedo guest mix) DreamensioN presents Universal Language 057 (with Costa Mappis guest mix) » 8 thoughts on “SCOM 2012 agent is not authorized to communicate with the server” Brent says April 3, 2013 at 12:13 am Thanks! This issue took us quite a while to figure out. Works great now. Reply bob lippold says May 19, 2013 at 10:26
