i tried to open my External Hardrive, I came across this error message "H:\ is not accessible, Error Performing Inpage Operation". I am sure most of them might have come across this problem and hope below solution might solve the issue, When i encountered this problem, i did a quick search in google and most people advised to go for new replacement rather trying with error prone external hard drive. Even at that moment, i even thought my old data was lost and in fact i was looking for some data recovery tools and other solutions to recover my data from hard drive. (probably a complex process :P) Also When i was navigating to Disk Management (Storage) utility under Computer Management, I was noticing for Errors in hard drive the file type was http://www.tomsguide.com/forum/238880-49-error-performing-inpage-operation empty rather (FAT/NTFS) and free size as full disk size, which worried me as i thought the hard drive was corrupted or data should have been erased completely. Don't Forget to Like Our Facebook Page What is Inpage Error? Physical problems on the diskette media, and is probably unrelated to paging operations involving the Windows paging file The error message can also mean that your drive is in bad state with some bad sectors which is the reason. Solution: Here is the Easy way to Solve http://www.technotipsblog.com/2011/10/error-performing-inpage-operation-on.html "inpage error" or "Error Performing Inpage Operation" by below step. But this simple tip might be easy to trouble shoot and take bit too long (depends on disk size and amount of errors) Start > Run > type in cmd then click OK to get a command prompt. Type chkdsk e: /r (replace e: with the drive letter of your external hard drive with the error). Also you could use a /f instead of /r. /r attempts to recover bad sectors. /f tries to fix bad sectors. /f does not try to repair. so you would have more data loss, but if its that bad its another option. /? will show all options Might not work if drive is full, needs room to recover files. it will let you know if that happens. Users running even the latest Microsoft operating system can still use the command to examine their hard drives for errors and repair them if necessary. Here’s how to run CHKDSK in Windows 8. Check out these awesome custom engraved Corkcircle Canteens from Perfect Etch. Related: Running Windows 10? Find instructions for CHKDSK here. First, launch the Start Screen by pressing the Windows key or clicking the lower left corner of the Taskbar. From the Start Screen, search for the Windows Command Prompt by typing “cmd”. Right-click on the Command Prompt and choose “Run as Administrator” from the bar at the bottom of the screen. After authenticating as an administrative user, you’ll be at the Windows Command Prompt, a familiar interface for users who remember the days before Windows NT. Type the command “chkdsk” followed by a space, then the letter of the drive you wish to examine or repair. In our case, it’s external drive “L.” Simply running the CHKDSK command will only display the disk’s status, and won’t fix any errors present on the volume. To tell CHKDSK to fix the drive, we need to give it parameters. After your drive letter, type the following parameters separated by a space each: “/f /r /x” The “/f” parameter tells CHKDSK to fix any errors it finds; “/r” tells it to locate the bad sectors on the drive and recover readable information; “/x” forces the drive to dismount before the process starts. Additional parameters are available for more specialized tasks, and are detailed at Microsoft’s TechNet site. To summarize, the full command that should be typed into the Command Prompt is: chkdsk [Drive:] [parameters] In our example, it’s: chkdsk L: /f /r /x Note that CHKDSK needs to be able to lock the drive, meaning that it ca
