Hi I have searched these forums and the web but can't find anything on this. I'm running Windows XP SP 3 on a Dell Inspiron 1501. I've recently uninstalled Avast, ran a registry cleaner afterwards to make sure it's completely gone, have disabled Windows Firewall, no other AV or Firewall running, every time I try to install Zonealarm free it gets to 10% installed and this error pops up: "Installation encountered an error and cannot continue. You can try the installation again at a later time. Error# 1603: Fatal error during installation." I've had Zonealarm installed on this machine successfully previously but had removed it completely, I also have it installed on various other machines and have never encountered this error before, and I can't find anything specific about what the error relates to. Any ideas anyone? Thanks Bransby November 29th, 2012 #2 GeorgeV View Profile View Forum Posts Private Mes

I tried to uninstall it so I could download and re-install. However, when I go to "add & remove" to uninstall Avast, I get an error message; Setup Fatal Error, Setup cannot continue. - I want to get it uninstalled, because I have scans scheduled and they still run in the background-slowing everything down. I did a search - C:\Program Files\Alwil Ssftware\Avast5\Setup and the files are there, but I still can't get the program to open properly and update properly.. So, I downloaded and installed the latest version of AVG. It appears to be working fine. I have tried deleting each file from Avast, but I get the message "access denied". Can someone please tell me how to get all the Avast files uninstalled? I have XP with updates. I use Firefox as my browser. Thanks. Avast has an uninstall tool available http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility Follow the instructions exactly as given on that page. NOTE, it says, the removal tool must be run in Safe Mode. Be sure to post back and let us know if it works. To download the newest version be sure that you download it from this link, and you should get a new one, don't use an old install file. http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/ __________________ 1.Dell Inspiron 17 5759 Windows 10 64bit Firefox v.49.0.1 ;WLM2012; Avira Free, Windows Firewall, MBAM, SpywareBlaster, SUPERAntispyware 2.Dell Inspiron
