three computers to backup with this howto. Two of the machines are linux the third is a windows machine. The windows machine backups perfectly. I created a seperate config.pl file for the windows to run samba. The https://www.howtoforge.com/community/threads/backuppc-errors.12173/ two linux machines are running a config.pl that is backing up using rsync. The linux https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/72958 machines seems to see the server just fine with all the tests run within the howto. The problem I'm having is I'm getting the same error on both linux machines: XferLOG.bad: Code: Contents of file /var/lib/backuppc/pc/COMPUTER/XferLOG.bad, modified 2007-04-18 22:00:01 Running: /usr/bin/ssh -q -x -l root COMPUTER /usr/bin/rsync --server --sender --numeric-ids --perms --owner --group --devices --links --times --block-size=2048 --recursive -D fatal error --ignore-times . /home/ Xfer PIDs are now 21979 Got remote protocol 1953722184 Fatal error (bad version): Host key verification failed. fileListReceive() failed Done: 0 files, 0 bytes Got fatal error during xfer (fileListReceive failed) Backup aborted by user signal handband2, Apr 19, 2007 #1 handband2 New Member fixed The problem I had was fixed. This is how I fixed it: Code: su backuppc Code: ssh -l root 192.168.x.x whoami AND Code: ssh fatal error during -l root comuptername whoami Then to test it Code: /usr/share/backuppc/bin/BackupPC_dump -v -f "computername" The howto should be noted that the FAQ in the documentation of BackupPC has ssh -l root clientHostName whoami to verify the command. Not ssh -l root 192.168.x.x whoami. handband2, Apr 19, 2007 #2 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) Milestone libfile-rsyncp-perl (Ubuntu) Edit Fix Released Undecided Unassigned Edit You need to log in to change this bug's status. Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description Binary package hint: libfile-rsyncp-perl When BackupPC is running on an edgy ubuntu, it gives an error: fileListReceive failed For any edgy ubuntu clients it attempts to backup. This is a bug in the libfile-rsyncp-perl package (upstream) and is fixed in later versions of the package. I have built the 0.68 package using the same diff as the libfile-rsyncp-perl_0.52-1 package and it works correctly. Add tags Tag help ward (ward-pong) wrote on 2006-11-29: #1 Confirmed here, I think. Something in Edgy's rsync is triggering this bug. Running backuppc off a Debian sarge box with ubuntu edgy clients fails with the infamous 'fileListReceive failed' error. Dapper clients back up without problems. I compiled the source .deb from feisty (0.64-1) and put it on my Sarge box, but that did not help, it still contains the (upstream?) bug. I then applied the 0.64-1 package diff to the 0.68 source .tgz, created an 0.68 package that way, but I still get the same error. Hrm.
