I had the same problem after having saved file in jEdit text editor (I wrote the filename in it). Removed file. Created via nano. Profit. Maybe the problem was with encoding, but to be honest, I don't know. Just try this. There is nothing wrong with the code, and I suck at C++ http://askubuntu.com/questions/575444/no-input-files-running-c-program and g++, so sorry if I suck at this. Anyways, I am getting the error message: 'Main.cpp -o Main error: Main.cpp: No such file or directory g++: fatal error: no input files compilation terminated.` Any idea as to why this might be happening? c++ g++ share|improve this question asked Mar 4 '14 at 18:12 user3233136 21114 1 Maybe you're in the wrong directory. –Brian Mar 4 '14 at 18:13 Show the compilation command Also, are you http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22179715/g-compiling-error-with-cpp sure Main.cpp is present in current working folder ? –P0W Mar 4 '14 at 18:13 I am sure it is in the current working folder. –user3233136 Mar 4 '14 at 18:18 2 If this is Linux, remember that file names are case sensitive, i.e., Main.cpp is not the same as main.cpp or even mAiN.cPp. You can have all three (and even more) for kicks. –vonbrand Mar 4 '14 at 19:17 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted Say you have file main.cpp inside of directory foo. To compile it with GCC, you navigate to foo and issue this command: g++ main.cpp This has to work. There's not much more to it. share|improve this answer edited Mar 4 '14 at 19:19 πάντα ῥεῖ 54.7k852105 answered Mar 4 '14 at 18:20 Camilo Bravo Valdés 2,3331133 Thanks, this helped. –user3233136 Mar 4 '14 at 18:21 @user3233136: if the answer helped consider marking it as accepted, (the green tick under the voting arrows) –Mhd.Tahawi Mar 4 '14 at 18:27 2 @Mhd.Tahawi That would help, I'm about to score 200 in a single day for the first time! –Camilo Bravo Valdés Mar 4 '14 at 18:29 Sorry, forgot to after logging off, done. –user3233136 Mar 4 '14 at 18:35 1 @faranwath, it sure does. I have spent a decent amount of time trying to get my gcc to work, but it won't. Here's what I tried: sudo apt-get install gcc //told me I had the latest version gcc -o HelloWorld.c gcc: no input files gcc https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1030742.html -Wall -ansi HelloWorld.c //a bunch of stuff, like HelloWorld.c:7: error: 'cout' undeclared (first use in this function) I also used Tab to complete program name, so there are no errors of that sort. Many thanks in advance, W windows-7 python gcc share|improve this question asked Oct 20 '15 at 23:17 user1885116 13715 gcc is a compiler, it requires input files. Otherwise, it has nothing to do. What are you trying to achieve by running gcc other than checking the version you have installed? –heavyd Oct 21 '15 at 0:00 Quickie Intro to GCC –DavidPostill Oct 21 '15 at 0:03 It's basically expecting you to pass it an argument to tell it what you want it to do. You call the program, then you tell it what to do. You type in gcc --version, it says, oh here's the version. You call the program only, and don't tell it what you want it to do, it has an error. –Homey_D_Clown_IT Oct 21 '15 at 0:13 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote It looks like GCC is installed just fine, you just didn't have any input files to give it, and GCC does not have an interactive pr
