Fatal Error Lnk1104 Cannot Open File Exe

Basically the "default" VC++ compiler location sets it self to the VC++ 2008 edition, and so I have to manually enter the path for the toolchain etc. I'm a hobbyist programmer so I'm not sure what the extra options really mean in regards to what additional options I should be setting (sorry if thats a bit vague), I have the windows platform SDK installed but whenever I try to compile including

the "windows.h" header file it says:Quotefatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'windows.h': No such file or directory|Now I'm not sure if this is because I haven't configured C::B correctly or if its something else, because of this sorry if this is the wrong section to post this in. What I have done though is replaced the path of the default VC++ 2008 toolchain with the 2010 edition (where the compiler etc resides), although I'm still getting the error when trying to compile.Trying with the standard headers for example like this:Code: [Select]#include
int main(void){
return 0;
}
And i get this from the build message box:QuoteLINK||fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'kernel32.lib'|Bit stuck.. Logged MortenMacFly Administrator Lives here! problems probably appear with normal C++. The command is different, but it still uses cl.exe to compile the code (was looking for that file in an earlier bug I had compiling). Basically, I http://forums.codeblocks.org/index.php?topic=12915.0 get the "LINK : fatak error LNK1104: cannot open file 'kernel32.lib'" error every time I try compiling. I'm not sure if that means cmd can't find kernel32.lib or if something's prohibiting it from compiling. If it's the former, how do I set the directory for kernel32.lib? I know where the file is. If it's the later, how do I make the file available? when I make changes and try to rebuild, I get the error LNK1104 saying that it cannot open my file for writing (the http://www.cplusplus.com/forum/beginner/36796/ exe itself). I have been told this implies that the program is still open, but the console is closed, and I have even gone so far as to exit "msbuild" from the task manager to no avail. Can anyone help me? It is impossible to work effectively when half the time that I make changes it can not rebuild. Feb 21, 2011 at 3:27am UTC fatal error Danny Toledo (463) Have you considered using a different IDE? I use Code::Blocks and the only problems that I have pertain to my inability to code. Feb 21, 2011 at 6:11pm UTC appnerd (25) ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? That makes no sense. Something is wrong, terribly wrong. Something must be wacky with your computer, cause I use Visual C++ 2010 Express, and have no problems at all. Feb 21, fatal error lnk1104 2011 at 6:15pm UTC Disch (13766) Close VS Delete the exe If you can't delete the exe, log out then log back in. Rebuild. Feb 22, 2011 at 2:42am UTC jfiore (9) Is there anything that doesnt involve having to exit the program? Feb 22, 2011 at 3:17am UTC Zhuge (4636) Erm, is there some reason you can't? Disch has basically given you a solution that is most likely to work given what you've tried already. Feb 22, 2011 at 1:18pm UTC jfiore (9) it takes about 2 minutes (one if Im fast) to do close the program, delete the exe, and wait for visual c++ to reopen. I make changes to my programs an an almost constant basis, and then recompile and run to check how the changes work. Having to wait 1-2 minutes for every 7 or 8 minutes of coding is a very inefficient use of time. If there is a way to fix this problem without closing visual C++, it will save a lot of time. Feb 23, 2011 at 4:37pm UTC chipp (686) probably there's something incomplete with your instalation process. in the other words, re-install... or re-download. it
